Anyone tried this type yet? Buttons appear to be in the correct place...

I bought one for £40 thinking it was small. Yours for the postage and a pack of yoyo sweets for my kids ( about £3).

Drawing inspiration from a couple of different folks on here (thanks!) here's my effort:

- eBay for old key
- Replacement chrome / back / buttons from Taunton Jaguar
- Bit of matt black vinyl to cover the Jag logo
- Sticker from the 1st4stickers.com as recommended further up this thread.

My observation is that ever since the trip to JLC, it seems the number of inside posts and off topic diversions has increased markedly to the detriment of the forum. While I thoroughly enjoyed all of the JLC trip posts and banter, they seem to have carried on into many, many threads as inside jokes and friendly (I presume) insults. Because of this meeting of a large group of forum posters, to the outsider it does indeed resemble a clique.

It would be good if the temptation to insert all the inside jokes and references could be resisted a little bit. My 2 cents as an outsider (not my fault, since there is a geographical dvide).
If you ask nicely, I'm sure we can come up with appropriate insults to throw at you.
Only to make you feel better you understand. wink

These efforts are looking fantastic. I provided a fob to NeinFondue who has remained fairly silent, so either he hasn't done the conversion yet or it is so bad that he is ashamed to show it in public?

Seems very easy and a world apart from the Volvo thingy!

Thinking about doing this... How do you get the Jag unit apart however? Doesn't appear to have any screws holding it together.

The chrome side pieces just pull off and then the two halves can separate.

Here's one I made earlier smile I used a slightly curved lapel badge stuck on with a smear of Araldite. 15 minute effort and I didn't bother flattening out the Jaguar embossing ...

Here's my effort:
Laurel veneer, ex-tag badge, and a whole lot of time which should have been spent doing something a bit more academic...

I've been trying to do this, but after reassembling the fob, you have to press the buttons really hard to get them to work. Is that the same for everyone else?

Originally, yes . However, it's because the plastic plate through which the buttons protrude doesn't quite align correctly with the Aston pcb. I managed to keep it in the right location by dabbing a tiny amount of superglue between the plate and the pcb (in two corners). Now it's perfect.

Thanks - doesn't make the car go any faster, though.

Looks good. How did you get the badge off the tag? I hacked away for ages and couldn't get the scensoreding thing off! rage

I've bought two fobs but as I lost my spare keys in Beaune, still haven't had the courage to potentially ruin my only way of starting the car scratchchin

Lots of ideas from this thread though yes

I just bought the jaguar fob off ebay. And I was thinking of changing the actual key casing with the badges.. worn and torn over the years. Does anyone have an extra one of these lying around for sale?

Just split the case along the seam with a scalpel blade.
Then flex the case half at the level of the badge, so that there's enough of a gap between the badge and the plastic to get the blade back in - then lever off.
Or else I guess drilling through the back and into the back of the badge might push it off before doing any damage to the badge.

In either case, mind your fingers... clap

Thanks. Will give it another go. Yes, was worried I was more likely to hack my fingers off than the badge smile
