It's getting harder to find used Jag fobs on eBay now. Everyone's buying them!
This seller has got 'over 10' of the things:

There's nothing to attach the ignition key to on that one confused

Taking the Aston unit apart doesn't destroy the leather. It's what you have to do to change the battery so in the owners manual.

Problem with any fob that doesn't have the same number of buttons is that the circuit / buttons will not line up. I did spend ages searching for a newer flip key design but couldn't find anything that looked a match. If anyone can find a jag xf flip type key, maybe that could be converted to the round Aston key. Pretty sure I did look and couldn't find anything but since I drive a DB9 I may be a bit old and have forgotten.

It might be worth an email to the seller. 'jag-land-uk'.

They are listed as 'BRAND NEW GENUINE JAGUAR' so there must a fairly good chance they come with the spare key bit.

I went down the "Knob29 approved" covering route...

Thanks again Stonic, great idea clap
So is this just the jag one then but with cf effect trim instead?

I like Yeti's idea of brushed aluminium with an aston badge in it. INIT!

and if possible can someone post a quick tutorial on the swap of internals from the crap volvo one to this please....

I am tempted to buy this and have an aston badge put in it somehow...

Can't you adapt something like this to take the volvo internals?

Good idea! The retractable Jag key has the same barrel as our key, so surely it’s just a reprogram?

It’s been mentioned before: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

But can the panic alarm, be sacrificed? Assessing the ‘panic buying’ on this thread, maybe it can’t. laugh

I like Stonic’s idea too; it’s an improvement, but I’d like to get rid of the fob altogether.

Steve, yes. It's just the same as Stonic did. The rear cover has a cf film over it.
Currently working on a stainless steel Aston logo engraved plate to replace it.
If it works out I might have some for sale idea

The entire fob or just the backing?
Either way you have my keen interest!

Just the back. You can't do much with the front because of the buttons. Should look pretty cool though if I can get the back right.

Ah. These particular fobs aren't an option:

"Hi

No these key fobs do not include the key blade

Many thanks

That's useful info. But you don't HAVE to attach the fob to the key...

Guys, I've just found that if you search eBay for 'Jaguar Key', you can find the Back Trim, Front Trim, Chrome Side Trims and Blank Key Parts all being sold separately at a fraction of the cost of a used (or new) fob.

The only bit missing then is the internals. The bit we're throwing away!

And the spring bar which releases the metal key.... (I've asked Taunton Jaguar about this part) It's them that I have ordered the other parts from.

I looked at this, but there doesnt appear to be the key stub available seperately?

Good find. Here's the blank key that is required to turn the rest into a keyring:

Already had a very quick response from Taunton Jaguar smile
They also do the spring bars and springs. Just be sure to ask for these too if going down this route.

Really interested to see how you get on with this, do you also need to order a housing or is this already included in the other parts that you've mentioned, it can be seen at step 13 in the following link.

Do you need the key release mechanism since the key is only a blank and of no use on an Aston
The blank key could be glued into the housing as it is only used on the Aston application to attach the key to the fob
