Mazda 6 2.5 - Should I ?

Afternoon,
Last year, Mrs Alfaeagle bought a brand new Mazda 2 that has slowly grown on me. I like the build quality, I like the way it drives and most of all I like the way that things don't drop off it every five minutes necessitating an expensive trip back to the garage to nail them back on again.
Casting my eye over the Mazda range, I find myself being drawn to the 6 hatchback with the face-lift that started on 57/08 plates and the 2.5 litre petrol engine.
It would definitely use more fuel than my current car, which returns just over 40mpg using diesel, but then I only do about 9,000 miles a year and petrol's cheaper. Car tax for my current car has just gone up to £190 a year, while the Mazda would cost me £245 a year, but then my current car is Group 16 and the Mazda is Group 12, so swings and roundabouts.
I wouldn't be doing this until the end of the year, so no particular rush, but does anyone actually own a 2.5 6 who'd care to voice an opinion, what do you think of it, is it a good car to drive, is it reliable, would it end up costing me an arm and a leg?
