subaru svx remap or ecu upgrade
Discussion
Hi guys, could anyone out there recommend someone or garage that could do this, maybe with rolling road or dyno for some figures. My svx had a yank ECU tune upgrade about 4 years ago(changed to 370cc injectors/z32 maf),but car is running rich, checked all normal running.Do use car for some trackdays.thanx
SVX is getting on a bit now and stopped production in 1996 so unlikely it's remapped in the usual way (ECU recalibration/programmed) unless it has an aftermarket ECU, or an ECU like a version 1 or 2 Impreza which is mappable thanks to ESL.
Chipping it isn't remapping and neither is a piggyback device.
What ECU/setup is it running??

the company in the US I bought the ecu stage1 upgrade from are called www.ecutune.com.This gave you a new ecu, after a year I purchased the stage2 chip, where upon you change the injctors and maf(this is all explained on the website.after a few trackdays I decided to fit nos,and so purchased thenos chip. The stage1 took the car to 275hp,stage2 280hp,and 319hp with the nos shot. But now it has a manual coversion(API engines/P1 gearbox.Ithink It needs sorting
If it's a JECS ECU then you never know. It would be interesting to find out what ECU it's using. I have a JECS ECU with an ESL board sitting on my desk as i write this.
To the OP....Is is a 4plug ECU?? Any model numbers on the ECU casing?? Manufacturer name??
ETA: I've just looked at the USA website for ECUtune and as dnb says it looks like a similar system to ESL. The problem is that it may be unlikely that you'll find a tuner in the UK that has the appropriate cable/adapters/software and hardware/software familiarity and skill to tune one of these daughterboards. Equally there can't be that many SVX's left in the UK so i think it's a very limited market with limited resources.
It's cool though that they can reprogram the autobox as well for better shifting. Clearly the US market is considerably large enough to warrant a company/s to specialise in this vehicle. Unfortunately you can't drive across the Atlantic to get your car tuned by these guys either so you're kind of stuck. You can tell them what your mods are and they can pop a base map on the board/ECU to run the bits you have but it's still no substitue for a proper bespoke full custom remap.
My advice would be to see if you can purchase/fit a ready to plug in aftermarket ECU or find an aftermarket ECU manufacturer like Simtek or Sytec(Solaris) to see if they can sort something out for you with one of their existing ECU's. It wouldn't be cheap either but it would give you the flexibility to add whatever mods you wanted and have the ECU custom mapped, in the UK, and to your specific modifications.
ETA 2: There is light at the end of the tunnel and none of it looks too complex. Who needs the US!! http://www.alcyone.org.uk/ssm/download.html
ETA 3: It would seem it does run a Jecs 4 plug ECU and it looks pretty damn similar to Impreza V1-V2 ECU. I'd say that it's potentially possible a V1-V2 ECU could run your SVX making it mappable. Only possible though and it warrants more investigation.

Just a quickie to add that it's possible the mapping on that ECUtune board hasn't quite got the injector scaling quite right hence it's possible it's running rich because of that, or possibly the Z32 MAF isn't scaled properly either. If the MAF is telling the ECU there is more air entering than there really is then the ECU will chuck more fuel in as a result hence the rich running.ETA: It would be worth chucking a wideband in the exhaust to check AFR's.
Looks like it's the same pinout as a standard Impreza ECU of the period. Assuming it's the same inside too there should be no problem with getting someone to adjust the tables - I suspect the ESL board ScoobyWRX has could be persuaded to work. The other option is to find someone with an eeprom programmer, a supply of 27c1028 chips and access to a rolling road... (I can do 2 of the 3
)
If money is no object then Solaris is the way forward. If not, then getting the existing ECU to work with an adjusted chip would be my choice.

I'd like to plug my ECU into the car just for the hell of it. You never know!!
Otherwise that website was very helpful and tells you everything you need to know to get the car mapped DIY. I prefer the DIY method when there is nothing else available or it's too expensive. The resource is there and on a UK site so well worth considering.
Solaris is a cracking ECU but it ain't cheap although it will give you infinite possibilities!!
Better start learning how to solder.

Thanks for ideas, will get on the phone for prices/ideas.As the engine is n/a bigger power 0-60/100,wont happen till engine blows, then transplant/rebuilt.Cheers
In case you haven't seen it here is some inspiration!!http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Unfortunatley it isn't mine, it's Jolly Green Monster's (Simon) http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/
