Cheap, Small and Reliable.

I've been given the thankless task of finding a car for about 3K for an old lady. Thinking in complete cliches my first thought was the antithesis of PH, the Nissan Mirca (K12) but after spending a evening on the net it appears they might not deserve their reputation for reliabiltiy.
Hopefully her budget should get her a later car with a decent timing chain, but it appears they all can suffer from dodgy power steering and problems with the boot locks.
Are these problems blown out of proportion on the internet or is the Micra a bit of a poor call. If so what else should I be looking at (horrors from Korea or more cash for a Yaris?)

Right time to look at the Yaris and Getz.
Trust Renault's involvement to lead to a decline in Micra build quality.
if I get the old dear a car that ever fails I'll never hear the last of it.
P.S. Apologies to all those who get stuck behind this car, it will be driven badly in true stereotype.
