It's been a hell of a weekend, Ive totalled my RX7 on Friday morning in a fairly bad wreck. Another car plowed into the passenger side door and rear caving it all in.

I was taken to hospital only to find the police waiting for me claiming I'm uninsured, as it turns out, my annual insurance ran out on midnight the night before, about 7 hours before the crash. Footman James won't allow me to simply renew the next day and carry on so it's £200 fine, 6 points and bye bye RX7.

Now, that RX has about 30,000 miles on it with no engine rebuilds, no track days, garaged all it's time in the UK, and a whole bunch of non invasive upgrades. Organic clutch, upgraded suspension, air intakes, PowerFC ECU (All Apexi stuff).

One of my friends reckons just scrap it. Another thinks a specialist might pay loads for the engine, gearbox, clutch etc. Does anyone know a garage that might be interested in it? Should I throw it on Ebay? Any advice or help appreciated.

Thanks,

M@.

At least you're ok what i don't understand is why your insurance didn't carry on as all the companys i've been with you have to cancel it to stop the policy carrying on even if you move to a different company.
As for the car if you're a member of any club i'd stick it on thier website and as you said e-bay another good place to try,it seems these days a lot of perfomance car owners do make more money by breaking the car plenty of vultures out there wanting cheaper parts.

If the mechanical parts are in good condition, try joining up to the owners clubs as people are always looking for parts (seem to recall a guy on FDUK looking for a running engine).

Otherwise the main rotary tuners (REWorx, WGT, Hayward Rotary) do buy parts off people, so worth a go. You are likely to get more by either of those routes than eBay to be honest.

Really sorry to hear about your situation!

Hardly suprised that the ins co don't want to renew the insurance after you had an accident after the policy had expired. I guess you didn't realise it'd expired - I like A-Plan for this, even if I'm not paying attention the letters and calls they do to chase business stop this being an issue!

Given the 3rd party ran into you does that mean they're 100% at fault? If so then your insurance situation is irrelevant although you'll be the ones chasing them for payment as you have no insurer of your oown to do this.

In the case you have no ability to recover costs from teh person who ran in to you try the like of Hayward - Carl will give you advice even if he's not buying.

You'll probably get more money breaking and selling bits separately yourself. Try FDUK and mazdarotaryclub.com (slightly larger number of members).

Thanks for the replies guys. I've got the car back in the drive now, so will look at what bits may be of value to Rex enthusiasts.

Cheers,

M@.

Have i miss read it or did you have insurance at the time of accident though it was going to run out at 2359pm that day?

Whose fk up was it? If it was the fault of the other party, surely their insurance will cover your cost of replacing the car, which would probably be a write off I'm assuming?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. If you can persue the other party then try that route.

If you do have to sell the car to recoup then consider breaking. You'll be surpised at what small parts from the car will sell well such as the interior plastics (prone to cracking), door handles etc. and any aftermarket upgrades.

Mazdarotaraclub and FD:UK would be your first places to try.

I'm an FD owner and always checking the forums for parts on there myself. Your car can still live on in spirit at least!

I'd rather not go into who's fault it was or wasn't on the net for legal reasons, but essentially I'm down one car as the insurance ran out on midnight of the previous night.

So I've decided to break the car for bits. I'll be posting on the sites soon FDUK MRC etc with pics and bits.
If anyone knows of anyone who wants the lot right now for a decent price, do let me know.

thanks again for the advice. RIP one stunning low mileage (30k from 1994) Efini RX7...

^ this, I'm not the most organised bloke on the planet and for me A-Plan add significant value on this point alone.

^ this also, it sounds like you've given up on the car ( fair enough, it looks beyond it ) but don't start breaking it until you've properly assessed the third party's insurances position.

I'd be interested in some parts, I have tried to send a message but it doesn't seem to be working.

I'd be interested in the following:

Headlight covers,
Front wings,
Boot plastic around the glass
Reverse lights
Parcel shelf
