Hi all,

I have a set of BS RE070 on gold STi rims and one of these is knackered because of my amateur track day driving (see my other thread), and the rims are also scuffed badly. I now have a second set of BS RE050A on new silver STi rims which have 4mm of tread (I bought the rims from a prodrive upgrade and the tyres for peanuts from a mate).

What ones should I use for my track day? Would you keep the RE070 for road and replace the knackered one, or use the RE050A's.

Thanks

-P

REO70's are awesome on track, they are pretty good on the road (for a track orientated tyre) but do tend to be a bit slippy on wet/greasey roads. They need some heat in them to perform/grip well and there isn't much chance of keeping them warm on the public roads so I would keep them for the track if it were my choice and keep the REO50's for the road.

I've completed around 11 trackdays and most of them were with REO70's, I like them alot!

RE070's aren't brilliant in the cold but they are a cracking good summer trackday tyre. In fact they are pretty good in the wet so long as it isn't stone cold weather.

I've had RE050's too and i wasn't very impressed so went to Pirelli P Zero, very good tyre but noisy.

OK...In prain engrish....

Chuck the 050's or....

.....replace the 070 that's knackered if you can get one that has comparable tread depth to match what you have. Great trackday tyre and pretty damn good on the road.

If not, use the 4mm 050's on your next track day to kill them right off. Just prior to that get some Toyo R1R's. Even better than the RE070's, specially in the wet. Fit them to your gold rims and use them to get you home. R1R's are the next best thing to 888's and will last a lot longer. Also can be used in very cold weather.

Scout around until you find a 070 with same tread as yours and keep them as the spare set or use as get you home tyres at the next trackday after this one.

Okay, but bear in mind that my road choice will just be getting me to a track and then home again. Plus my other half going to school (to teach you understand!). I sometimes use the scooby for a sunday monring hoon, but not often now... I am leaning towards keeping my nice silver rims with the not so good 050's for the road and caning my 070's on the track smile

If you decide to kill the 070's just make sure you match tread depth on the replacement 2nd hand tyre otherwise it could cause issues with your 4WD if you replace it with a new tyre that has considerably more tread on it than your runners.

Anyway....when you've killed your 070's, try Toyo R1R's.

I won't put T1r's on a push bike let alone a 1500kg 300+bhp car,

Sorry but the Toyo T1 r's maybe a good road tyre for lightweight Scoobs of low power but struggle with the heavey newage cars wink the also struggle on heavy cars IMHO

Watch a tyre fitter take of RE070's you'll need 3 and a machine but 1 and a spoon with Toyos.. Bridgstone tyre walls are awesome biggrinbiggrin

IMHO IIRC
You've misread what i've typed. R1R not T1R. Completely different tyre from the same manufacturer!!
