100,000 mile 350Z, a wise choice ?
Discussion
After narrowing my choice down from an X5, XK8 & an A4 convertible (strange bed fellows I know), think I have finally settled on a 350Z. Problem is with a limit of £6000-£6500 (& wanting to avoid an import), Im limited to cars with 100K+ mileages.
Having owned a few Japanese cars (& enduring an 03 plate Celica at the moment)Im satisfied that it will be reliable enough. Problem is though, is there any specific things I should be looking for when considering a Z with such a relatively high mileage ? Timing belts, clutch units, suspension ?
If anyone is running a Z with such a mileage, would particularly value your own input.
As an aside, I live in the North West & any recommendations for garages who can look after the car would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

100K miles it could be on it's third clutch - known weak point I believe.
'Banana' bushes are another favourite to wear out - replace with poly bushes and should be good for a while. Rear CVJs can need replacing too.
Not the fastest nor most practical and very much under-rated - I think they're great fun.

Cheers for your response. Probably more a state of mind thing, but you hear of difficulties in getting parts etc & the like (not to mention Insurance & then selling the things on). Many moons ago ran a MK1 MX5 & again I deliberately avoided the Eunos Roadster.
Have also read a fair few reviews of the Import v UK model debates & general opinion is that its a safer bet to go for the UK car. This is particularly so as I have no mechanical knowledge what-so-ever & any job more complex than changing a tyre will require a garage to carry out.

I really like the idea of the Jag, especially one of the supercharged variants, but it's a different sort of proposition to the Nissan. Didn't even make the shortlist when my wife was looking for a new car - "old man's car", apparently. Her brother bought one, though, had it a while and then traded back down to another MX-5; liked the comfort, but too remote and it "tried to bankrupt" him

The wimmin thing is interesting. Women seem to like the Zed very much indeed.
After owning a TVR Griffith for four years, a proper burbling, V8 convertible British sports car I'd decided women just don't get nice cars. The Zed however, garners much interest from wimmin folk. Not sure why but it's true.

There's a chap (username 350doc) over on www.nissansportz.com who has covered over 160,000 miles in his 350Z. As far as I'm aware there have been no major issues, but he's on 4th (?) clutch IIRC.
i had mine supercharged by Abbey at 122,000 miles. Since then its done about 1500 miles at 351.5 whp and hasnt missed a beat. When stripping it down they noted that a spark plug gasket had gone and the suspension bushes were going too.
previous to having it supercharged, i brought it at about 70,000 miles and the only thing i have replaced mechanically is the passenger window motor (£500 but warranty covered that)
P.S with regards to the clutch note, i havent changed mine since buying it and it runs the mods fine (so its done at least 52k on the current one) although it has mainly done motorway mileage...
My experience of the Z is that its pretty much bullet proof if properly maintained

^^^^ thanks very much for that, much appreciated. Am going to look at a few this weekend which are advertised on Autotrader to get a feel of what I want. Ideally would have preferred an orange (bronze ?) car, but everything at my level from a Dealer is silver (which will fit in quite well with the silver Elise, Celica, 156, A4, MX5 & other sundry cars Ive owned in the past few years).

Oh do f
k off! At least it's not that dull "I've got no imagination" silver - and it's sunset, not ginger!
God I wish I'd bought a blue one...
