The 350z is getting old and, as much as I love it, I'm just starting to fancy a change.

Everything I know about the X is ideal for me, but I don't know everything about it.

The IX might be the more involving drive, but the more refined nature of the X is what appeals.

MPG/fuel costs aren't an issue, as I do so few miles anyway (walk to work). Insurance costs I know about.

But what I want to know are things like servicing costs, hidden costs I might not expect... The X is on a 10k service interval isn't it, unlike the IX?

So yeah, any sage advice would be welcomed.

Interesting that you havent considered a 370z?!

I owned an EVO for a few years and it was the best car I ever owned or have driven. Fuel costs was biggest concern for me which is why I had to get rid frown

You will always have fun in it and it will always put a smile on your face!

Very nice cars. Remap and you will knocking on the doors of 400bhp reliably.

I would prefer an earlier model as they are lighter and a bit more hardcore, but I can see the appeal of the X.

Are you buying a new or used car? They have just had a price drop on the new cars so you should be able to get a used bargain or even a new bargain.
Have you considered a WRX STI HATCH? if so only go JDM with the 2.0l engine as the 2.5 is prone to engine failure smile

The 2.5 is prone to engine failure? Really? On what do you base this on?

As the 2.5 block is a common upgrade when the 2.0 litre sts itself, in my opinion it's the other way around, mainly due to poor fuel and bad maintainence?

AFAIK, cylinder walls are thinner on 2.5 and 2.0 is generally stronger. So, for a mild power upgrade, 2.5 is better; for big power 2.0 is preferred.

I have an Evo X FQ 360. It puts a smile on my face EVERY time I drive it. The handling is just epic. Imprezas don't come close... wink
Yes of course the fuel consumption is horrendous because I go everywhere flat out, but isn't that the point? I don't begrudge it one single drop of super unleaded smile

How many miles do you get out of the tank? MPG?

Because he sells the 2.0l and not the 2.5!

The 2ltr is a stronger block by design. That does not make the 2.5 bad within its operating limits, however, they are not as good if you want to make bigger power.

Fundamentally, a smaller diameter cylinder will always be structurally stronger.

The only issue with the 2.5 is in the hatchbacks and that was due to the map and not the engine- has since been rectified. 2.5's ran fine in the UK hawkeyes...........

He is only telling people to buy 2.0l JDM as that is what he sells! And i wouldn't trust a car from him anyway.redcard

Original poster, stick with the EVO if thats what your after. Heard nothing but good things about the X so take one for a test drive and see how it feels. If it feels right then go for it!

Yes... But some people have pushed (with mods) the 2.5 lump too hard and it has gone bang. Back to that point about operating limits really.

Its a shame because its made it more expensive to make big power with the hawkeye onwards...

I am with you on this, the 2.0l can be pushed further but there isn't anything wrong with a 2.5, depending on how sensible you are and how far you want to push it. Also who has touched it- I know a JDM 2.0l that went bang twice due to an idiotic trader.

Just pointing out the reason why he is pushing the 2.0l- sales.......

I've had two hawkeyes, one at 344 bhp and the other 362 or something, plus at least 15 friends have them and not an ounce of bother with any of them.

As for the earlier models.... Ahem.... Knock knock knock.

Plus I'd really like GTR Cook to elaborate on his mate's JDM 2.0, mainly for my own amusement hehe

It gets quite complicated so i'll keep it short! A Trader (he has posted on this thread in fact) bought a car with a blown engine and 10k on the clock, bodged the rebuild and sold it for a premium as an "immaculate Spec C". Engine blew up again after 6k and the new owner got left to pay for the rebuild.

Funny thing is the trader never mentioned it had previously had issues and has been lieing ever since. Problem is we found the truth from other companies that know the car. Would never have touched the car had he known its true history.

I'll get him to stick the pictures up.

Back on topic, sort of, and this seems the ideal place to put this, has anyone tried the FQ330 SST? They seem to be very good value at only a year old now and I'm getting a bit bored with my STi 330S (which hasn't blown up in 3 years...sorry to break the myth).

Avoid the sst imo. I've heard of some failures on the Mlr and its expensive. Go for the manual 360.
