Wheel colour decision and who to use?

Hi all,
I'm considering changing the colour of the wheels on my Evo X - the wheels are as new in every respect as they have only done 2000 miles and have never been kerbed etc... so they should be easy enough to do.
My car is in my profile, it's orient red with the standard 18 inch alloys in silver. I was thinking anthracite/gunmetal grey type colour. What do you lot reckon? Do it or leave em standard? Anyone know of a good place to get them done? I am near Iver in Bucks, so near to Slough/Uxbridge.
I rarely use the car, so would be happy to take the wheels off and send them via courier to somewhere to get a decent job done.
My mate says to rag the b
ks out of the car and let the brake dust build up and job jobbed!!

I think dark wheels on a red car look very nice, they will give it a more aggressive look, we had anthracite wheels on the wifes red Clio sport and it looked fab!
Worse case scenario you can just go back to silver if you get bored

I had my focus rs wheels powder coated black at SCC in st. Albans the guy their Rob is a gem and loves cars and would do a great job I'm sure, not sure if that's near you or not lol!

Like the idea, should look good, but I'd stay on the grey side. Black wheels look rubbish IMHO. How are you getting on with the Evo X and how does the build quality seem beyond the usual Japanese car rattles? I'm very tempted by one now. Also tempted by the BBS alloy upgrade, despite the cost, as it'd give me the standard set to use for snow tyres. If it's not too rude, how much did you pay for yours new?
I would go anthracite, not black, I think it will suit the colour better. Black wheels, especially on darker shades of red like the Lancer X shade, tend to get lost or look like spare wheels at a distance imo. A nice anthracite will really set the look off.
As above, you get what you pay for, and for a full anthracite recolouring most businesses will probably ask that they do the work at their workshop. I kerbed a wheel on my last car, which had anthracite coated wheels and the place I spoke to, that did most of their regular refurb work from a van, said to get the job done well they would rather do it at their workshop. Beware the cheap jobs too, I never had any trouble with the finish on mine but I've seen wheels that have been done to the lowest cost, they ended up with corrosion bubbling the finish from within (due to improper priming of the wheel before coating), and the finish cracking and flaking away badly after tyre changes.

Hi Ali. Evo's been fine - only done 2000 miles in her. No rattles thus far! I'm unsure about the wheels. I may well leave them alone and perhaps as you suggested, get my hands on another set. Not sure if 19's will go on as the car is obviously designed and set up for the standard wheels......With regards to cost, my car was pre-registered at Mitsubishi dealer so they had the joy of paying the first years' road tax at.....wait for it.......£1000.00!!


It had just 5 miles on the clock when I got it in July this year and I paid £27,000.00 for it. I think they retail at 33k new - but it's a buyers market, and I know they're struggling to shift them so you'd get a great deal if you deciced to go for one. It's a lot more refined than the Evo 8's and the older Evos. But it's not as raw and mental.
Paddle shift is absolutely excellent and in sport or race mode it's a real hoon. I'd have preferred a different colour, but this one came up and suited me at the time.
Off to scour the web for more wheels.......any ideas?

I'd rather keep the standard wheels I think and go for a colour change. Right, will keep you updated on what I do/where I get them done. I reckon it'll be at least £50.00 per wheel for a decent job, possibly more.

I'm going to call this firm on Monday and see what they think and establish some prices. Agree on having the whole alloy done. I'll take the wheels in loose without the tyres.
