would that be right?

looked at one on saturday being sold as an STI but i have my doubts. it did have the STI interior but standard 4-pot brakes. it had an FMIC so i couldnt tell by the intercooler and the turbo didnt look big enough to be a TD05.

up for £2950 which seemed steep for an N-reg.

Yep that's correct mate, the brembos were only added to the newage STI's.

The 'Subaru' embossed 4 pots are now standard on the newage wrxs

If your having doubts about it being a genuine STI, ask the seller for the engine code and check against that

The standard n reg Sti i had did not even have 4 pots !

It should have the intercooler water spray if its a genuine Sti, it could have been aftermarket fitted of course.

The 7 digit "applied model" code found on the vehicle identification plate inside the engine bay is decoded in the following way:
