MR2 turbo radiator removal

I'm trying to get the rad out of my MR2 turbo. Looks easy in the workshop manual (doesn't it always?) - unplug fans and sensor, remove hoses and top brackets, lift out of the top. Unfortunately the gap is too narrow for the radiator to fit through?! It won't lift up enough to clear the lugs so I can get it out of the bottom either.

Am I being completely thick? Anyone know how it's done?
