WRX or skyline gtst?
Discussion
Ok so im lookin for a new car, and ive got 3 grand to spend roughly. With this i can either buy a pretty mint scooby or a pretty rough lookin skyline :/ lol im not fussed at all about body work as i can do all that myself. Ive always wanted a skyline but parts r gettin harder to find and a mechanical problem would really bite my wallet, whereas the subaru has tons of cheaps parts available. I kno im gona b racing these cars hard and i need something thatll last, but at the same time be the most fun + skyline has loadz more potential with the extra 500 cc . Just wanted to kno what u guys would do ? + why
lol
lol Well yh its a club which does track days every few weeks around the country, this car is guna b purely for drivin and not for show or anything like that. O and thanks for the insight about the skyline parts, id based my thinking purely on the fact that theres tonnes of crashed wrx's in my local breaking yards. Anyway thanks guys, im kynda slidin towrds the wrx after doin a bit of research on the cost of modifying.
If it was me i would be gettin a skyline because they have so much more potential than a scooby i.e BHP. Ok the parts are not cheep but the skyline has been on the market for alot longer than the scooby. Also the skyline are really made for the trck and the scooby is more for rally racing.
Subaru for the track. The Nissan will do nothing whatsoever for you around a track, especially in standard form.
Engine wise, I'd tend to opt for the Skyline as a 3k Skyline would be far more reliable than a 3k WRX Impreza, although as you say parts are cheaper. The way I'd be looking at it, should the worst happen and the car does the bottom end, an RB25 is around £1200, so cheaper than the boxer engine. And twice as reliable in my experience.
If I had to choose between the two, I'd be looking out for a 2001-2002 WRX STI, the bug eye model. Not the prettiest, but that would be my choice of the two.

I've got a GTST trackday car - took a lot of time n effort to get the GTST handling well, braking well but parts are plentyful if you use the forums \ traders on them and they are tail happy so a bit more fun when you want them to be but out of the box there are far far better track day cars - I just wanted a GTST
@ noosh
Well i took an r33 for a drive a few weeks ago, and in terms of straight line speed i would have to say that the skyline comes out trumps over the subaru. The engine revs a little more freely and the 2.5 l engine compared to the 2.0 of similar year subarus provides that extra bit of torque. In the corners however id say that it would come down to personal preference, the skylines grip a little less and the skyline i drove felt kynda rolly , however it was my first time driving one so it might just have been me, and i dont know if the owner had messed aroud with the suspension either.

Sounds like the suspension was tired. My R34 GTT was on standard suspension and I didn't have any issues with body roll.
You can make a nice track car from a GTST as this thread shows http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/showthread.php?...
It also helps that the owner of that car it completely barmy (in a good way).

I would think the total opposite. Had a couple of friends with skylines and they had a few issues. Had a few more mates with imprezas and never had one engine issue between them. Other than routine servicing I have only ever had to have a leaky rocker cover gasket replaced on mine in almost 3 years which cost £60.A classic impreza us very light for what it is and easily made good for the track, a skyline not so easy.
I'd also consider an evo4.

Or if you can wait a few weeks...

Avg price is under £1000 for one like that atm. Throw in shipping, registration, tax and you should be about £3000.

I dont think either car was really designed for the track, is there any reason why you have short-listed a gtst or a wrx?
Both cars are fairly heavy, and heavy on consumables.
Have you not considered the likes of modded mx5's/ Mr2's etc?
