Gen7 Celica Plastic Engine Covers...

...Specifically the large L shaped bit to the left and the little flat piece on the front that meets the heder tank - do I actually need them?

I'm getting fed up of the stupid little clips that they are fasten on with and am now thinking of just removing the whole things completely.

Are they purely cosmetic (therefore removable) or do they serve some deeper darker purpose (airflow or such like)? I am aware that the bonnet stay attaches to the big L bit so I would have to fashion a clip to hold that secure, otherwise they are being banished to the back of the garage for the foreseeable!
