Sports Family Saloon/Hatch Wanted - Any sugestions?
Discussion
I'm after a 2008/9/10 Jap family car (Mondeo Size), must have decent performance (about 250 bhp) with 4/5 doors, but not a Subaru or Evo. I have about 8k to spend.
10 years ago I would of bought an Accord Type R, 6 years ago I would of bought a Mazda 6 MPS, but now I can't find anything.

Not for 8k you wouldn't. Probably still your best bet.
Yeh, your prob right. What I meant was that years ago Mazda and Honda both produced very fast Family sallons, but there appears to be nothing similar on the market now, since the production of the MPS was ceased, unless you buy a Evo or Subaru.
Niether Mazda, Honda, or Toyota produce a fast family saloon, now, or since 2008.

Forrester or Legacy B6? Does it have to be Japanese?
It was, but looks like I will have to think about other marques. The Japs appear to give best £ per BHP, I'm not a fan of Ford or Vauxhall, and I think the German brands are overpriced, as your buying an image/badge as well as the car, and I'm not bothered about either.Edited by hygt2 on Saturday 7th April 18:37

Does it need to be an all out performance car or just something with a bit of get up and go when you need it? Am I right in assuming that the Impreza and Evo are out due to lack of refinement rather than image from you above post?
The Legacy is a great all rounder and far more civilised as a daily but other than that I am struggling to think of anything that fits your requirements?????

+1, seems a pretty arbitrary thing to rule out Subaru. Legacies are great. The Legacy is a great all rounder and far more civilised as a daily but other than that I am struggling to think of anything that fits your requirements?????

Why Jap, a 156 GTA fits the bill nicely
Because the 156 will break down!!Sorry, couldn't resist

The 4WD V6 Brera would be my choice if going Alfa, quite a bit more reliable than the previous 156 apparantly and 250hp. That said it still isn't a rocket ship as it weights in at about 1800kg!!!!! As a refined car with a bit of go though I guess it works, it just all depends on what the OP is really after from his car??

Lagacy would be fine, just not a Impreza.Thinking about a Saab Aero, althouh they are a bit pipe and slippers, they do put out 210bhp and I have heard good reports about them, they are reliable as a Jap, but with out the German price tag.
