Hi all

Thinking of buying one of the last Lexus LS400 so year 1999/2000 (Reg-V/W/X) car with over 100,000 miles and am hoping for some pointers. The last of the line LS400 with over 100k seems to be very good value right now.

Am I in thinking that, as they are last of the LS400 (before LS430), these are one of the most reliable within that range? If not, I can go for earlier models.

What are they common failure points and cost to repair them? Can you point out all the buyers guide there are so I can research and armed with all the knowledge when looking at the cars please?

I have done some part-price searches on buy-parts-by, carparts-directs, eurocarparts, etc. for maintenance items like brakes, springs, dampers, alternators, radiators, etc. Unfortunately I cannot find the prices for 1) suspension bushes, 2) control arms, 3) anti-roll bar bushes, 4) drop-links and 5) air-con condensers part prices. Can you suggest what are the prices for these items as I think they are wear and tear items on a 100k car.

Thank you very much in advance !!

Hi. Mk4 ran from '97'R', spec unchanged throughout. Except for the addition of the UKDealer added DHP upgrade.

Had my 132k '98 'S' for 18months now. Needed both handbrake cables for the MoT (seized through under use) £120 delivered for the parts from Swindon Lexus.

That's the only part I've needed. Fantastic car, the Xenons, VVti engine + 5-speed box make it much more desirable than the (otherwise mechanically identical) earlier Mk3 imo.

I'd like to have an aux input into the (fabulous) audio, and a bigger boot to make it perfect.

The reliabilty alone makes this the only sensible cheap barge purchase imo. When you find out that it's also quieter, faster and more economical than it's German or British V8 peers then it's a no brainer.

I'd not be put off a 430 though. I want one - well either that or a Citroen C6.

You'll find the detailed info you're looking for (and comparisons with the 430) over on lexusownersclub.co.uk; the forum with the quietest 'technical problems' area around wink
