I'm toying with the idea of making my zed's exhaust sound a little more 'interesting'.
Has anyone used Custom Chrome to customise theirs?
Ideally, I'd like a little more volume and a few pops, bangs and cackles on overrun would be nice.

What is it you are proposing here, to have a full custom system made to fit or just getting a couple of slip-on backboxes? I wouldn't bother with a generic, slip-on box, I'd get a custom system made to fit. If you want crackles, pops and bangs with a naturally aspirated car then you really want a straight-through system, otherwise you might get some muffled pops at best. On the other hand, this will probably be far louder than you are looking for, so perhaps not ideal.
The 350z has a relatively small centre silencer but a huge rear section. Something with a smaller centre silencer will unlock more aggressive tone - as small as you can get, or no centre silencer at all is best imo, and then the size and style of the backboxes will moderate the volume. Have a think about how loud you want. Aggressive tone usually requires some volume, and some level of in-car drone is practically unavoidable.
As always though, remember that good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good. I wouldn't bother with two £30 cans, they will probably just sound crap, fit badly, look rubbish and fall to bits. Spend money on a quality system and it will out-last the life of the car. From a glance, 350z systems run from £600-£1200 for the good options, I wouldn't bother with any cheap ebay systems personally. It's your pride and joy presumably, so save up and get it what it deserves.

My issue is I still have TVR in my blood. My precat Griff sounded fantastic; pops, bangs and flames on demand.
I know I'll never achieve the same level of aural pr0n with me Zed, but a 'presence' or sense of occasion would be nice.
The few off the shelf solutions I've heard on the road and on YouTube havent quite hit the spot yet so thought a custom job may be the answer. I'm not talking about a couple of cherry bombs- I don't mind paying.

If you've had a loud car before then you know what you are getting yourself into, I'd so go for it. Either a Buddy Club Pro Spec or a custom system with no centre silencer and straight-through backboxes. Some might say this would not sit well with the sensible GT image of the 350z, and but it will certainly sound pretty good!I know I'll never achieve the same level of aural pr0n with me Zed, but a 'presence' or sense of occasion would be nice.

I had Berk Hi-flo cats fitted to mine, which made it sound a little more aggressive and upped the volume a little. I also had a Japspeed Y-pipe fitted, which made the car sound too raspy (I should have bought a resonated Y-pipe).
The biggest change was the Blitz Nur-Spec T system I had fitted. Popping and burbling even at idle and very loud! SWMBO kept telling me she could hear me coming a quarter of a mile away!
Cats and Blitz system currently sat in the shed waiting for me to put them up for sale on the Zed forum.

If there is a Blitz system available and it's a loud one then I'd probably go for that. The Blitz systems for turbo cars like the Impreza and Evo are pretty loud and have great tone. I wanted one for my Civic Type R, but it transpired that the Nur Spec NA model that they did for the Civic was barely louder than then OEM system, and at £800 for a new system, that instantly put it off my list.
If the Nur Spec is as raspy and loud as the poster above says it is, and he has one that he would sell, I'd jump on it.
