Now I can assume that the word 'Hybrid' summons up images of eco freaks with no passion for cars as that is how Jeremy Clarkson views them.
As for the educated among us we can clearly see that it is a good progression until we are able to use hydrogen fuel cells instead of fossil fuels (which is the future imo).
As we all know Toyota and Lexus have lead the way in the development of hybrid technology as we currently have the Prius and Auris Hybrid on Toyota and apart from the IS series, all Lexus models have a hybrid variant.
Now the Yaris is finally here and I must say when I saw it at work I thought it looked MAF (mean as f**ck). Severely facelifted front end that just looks awesome. The rear is the same except for a change in rear lights.

I will update tomorrow when I have spent more time with it and driven it.

Jazz Hybrid is a great car to drive and is actually slightly quicker than the petrol version. CVT gearbox is nice too if you're not in a rush
top spec comes with headed leather, full glass roof, climate etc iirc thats only £17k 5 year warranty on all the hybrid parts too
looking forward to hearing the road test on the yaris

Well here it is, the most eagerly awaited roadtest review EVER.
So first impressions, interior very much like the new shape Yaris except for a few minor cosmetic tweaks which IMO lifted the interior.
Full screen multi-media centre (I'm sure you've all seen the cartoon rapper guy advertising this), ample sound system with a good punchy bass line (synced my iPhone with it). So overall the interior is not much different but a definite improvement.
Actual roadtest. This car was equipped with the 16's so had relatively low-profile tyres for the car, now this didn't bother me as it made the car more capable than one equipped with the 15's with higher profile tyres so if you're after comfort choose the smaller wheels (if possible, I don't know if there is a wheel option).
Now for the big one, fuel economy. After I fuelled the car is reset the average MPG to 0 and carried out my roadtest. It consisted of rural roads mixed in with a bit of urban driving to try and get a good estimate on real world driving. It was approximately an 8 mile trip with the end MPG being 57.6. At one stage it was up to 59.9 but I was getting a bit bored of eco driving so decided to boot it down a straight to see how it pulled, surprisingly well actually, unfortunatly this did annihilate the consumption down to around 52. I would imagine that the average MPG that could be achieved could be the low to mid 60's as the mileage on the car increases and its not a fresh tight engine.
So there we go, Yaris Hybrid

I've also had a go in a Yaris hybrid. My wife has the latest gen SR 1.33 which a great little car with half leather,16" smoked alloys, touch & go , reversing camera etc, etc. I managed 68 mpg with mixed driving which I was impressed with and the thing is whisper quiet.Small diesels are ok but flippin noisy and rough by comparison. If my wife would drive a 2 pedal car, I'd have one no problems, I think they are the future, diesels certainy are not( esp when the next EU emissions regs come out, and kill the diesel advantage forever)
