Strongest gearbox to use?

It will be drag raced so would need to cope with say 500bhp or so.

MR2 Turbo 'box? Can the bit where the cables attach be changed to suit FWD?

MR2 turbo box will certainly be strong enough. Stock boxes take huge power.

Suggest you go to the ToyotaGT forums, a bod on there installed a 3SGTE into his starlet.
