Evening,

I have a Mk2 MR2, Japanese import, built in 1989.

I wanted rid of the shonky aftermarket 17" wheels and found a set of 14" on Ebay. I put the rear one on and it makes contact with this part marked with a yellow x.

Any assistance would be helpful in resolving this problem.

(I've had to put the rubbish set on for the moment.)

Not sure why you're on 14's - did the sw20 every have that size as std?

The 15's are £10 each on the bay or imoc.com?

A rev 1 is a MK2. So is a rev 2, rev 3, rev 4 and so on.

Proper 'factory' MR2 14's? Off a Mk2 (not off a Mk1)?

Should fit.

Suggestion - someones changed that ball joint, and it has a longer head - is it the same both sides?

Alternatively - you havent fitted a front wheel to the rear, have you?

It should have been the rear wheel, it was one of the wider ones.

Here's the other side.

Cheers.

Strange. So the 17" wheel did not rub, but the 14" correct wheel does.

Rev 1 had the 14" wheels. The 15" wheels from later revs 2, 3 and 4 look best in my opinion. Rear wheels are all wider than the front, but not sure why it rubs. My rev1 used to rub at the front when the steering was on full lock.

From the photos, the thread looks longer on the side you find your wheel to rub than the other side.

Looks like the ball joint on at least one side has had a botched repair frown

I think you chaps might be onto something with these ball joints, there was a new one and a knackered old one in the boot.

I'll take it to our ball specialist next week.

Peace
