Lexus specialist near Taunton?
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I thought a new thread was appropriate for this. Thanks to some helpful advice from you guys I am now the owner of a 2001 GS300. It has full Lexus service history, a recent cam belt and 12 months MOT.
It's this one:
http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...
It does have a couple of things that need sorting:
The N/S fog lamp is cracked, so could do with replacing - I am assuming ebay is a good place to pick one of those up, and fairly simple DIY
There is an advisory for wear in upper ball joints (this seems to manifest itself in an intermittent slight vibration at speed, but nothing earth shattering)
A couple of bumper scuffs that would benefit from a lick of paint- but I will probably leave them
It also needs a jolly good clean...
I live near Taunton, so are there any good Lexus specialists that you guys could recommend in that area?
Also is the upper ball joint replacement a difficult/expensive job? I bought the car quite a bit under my budget so don't mind spending a bit of money on it.
First impressions are that it's not quite so refined as my trusty old 5 (but there isn't that much in it), but it still feels solid a refined. It feels more 3 series than 5 if you see what I mean?

I'm responsible for about 140,000 miles of the 214,000 on my 1998-model GS.
There is nothing complicated about the GS front suspension. Any competent mechanic will be able to replace the upper arm. The only issue is that the upper ball joint is integral with the wishbone and Lexus parts are a little expensive. Aftermarket alternatives are available, though. Should be about £80 for the part.
Ask them to grease the caliper sliders while they are in there.
The new cam belt is a good thing - the VVTi version is an interference engine.
