Replacing the coil pack and uprating the leads to a set of Magnecor KV85 8.5mm leads, any suggestion on what coil pack I should go for? Found a set of stock rx8 ones I may be picking up, but before I do is there a preferred option to go for?

Also, anyone tried out 'Cataclean'? Much benefit from using it?

Stock replacements. Go to Mazdarotaryparts, JP4mance or similar, Camskill have some cheaper ones but if you read the small print they are not originals so are an unknown quantity.

Edit, some on the owners club report that cataclean helped them get through the emissions test. I'm dubious personally but it doesn't do any harm by all accounts.

These places do the US version of the coils, but I've heard from a few sources that they fail soon because of the fuel here or something. Mazda ones have dropped in price recently, they used to be around £110 each.. They're £69 now.

I got some from Arlington Mazda in the US about 4 years ago for about £50 each. Just check the part number is N3H1-18-100B-9U. The US ones are no different to what we use and mine showed no signs or symptoms of failure when I changed them out after 30k.

From either of the suppliers I mentioned before you will be looking at about £250 for all 4.

Yeah, the 9U on the end means US spec. I've heard it from a Mazda dealer, who was fitting them instead of Mazda ones, and had problems with them.

You can get coils from a few places. Personally I'd get them from WGT or Silverstone Autosports in Cheshire, or Rotechnics in Reading, or my friendly dealer. Old fashioned I know. Depends where you are. Mazda parts retailers can be a minefield and I know that one listed below has been formally investigated by Mazda.

I fail to see how fuel would affect coils but there you go.

Cataclean is snake oil I believe, and so do others; http://www.exile-rotorsport.com/viewtopic.php?t=53...

Fair enough. Avoiding the fact that a Mazda dealer may have a vested interest in you buying from them, my coils gave no problems and showed no appreciable degradation in the 30k miles they were on the car. The main thing is to change them regularly and you'll be ok no matter which ones you get smile

I work at a Mazda dealer, in parts/service.. smile

I've previously recommended getting the Coils/Leads kit from MRP, and upon speaking to MRP it seems quite a few dealers buy parts from them anyway hehe

I told the Mazda chaps every time the rip off prices were making customers go elsewhere, eventually the price has come down to a reasonable £69, which includes a 2 year warranty.. Not too bad really.

I missed the first post where he mentioned that they were only £69 now. For that price I would buy them from a dealer - although I'm dubious that there is any difference due to the fuel.

Local franchise dealers probably source from several places when confronted with a customer order with limited stock levels. Which dealer do you work for?

Mazda UK will have an interest in those items being genuine. The customer will have an interest in that, and price and lead time.
