What small family car to get

Hi,
I currently run a Mazda 6 Zugara 2004, basically a 2.3 Sport with bigger 18" alloys and half leather. I want to down size, as 95% of my miles are just me, and the 2.3 only gives about 30mpg.

I want a smaller Jap car that is as quick as the 6, but cheaper to run; must be 5 doors, and get about 40mpg on the motorway; be less than £5k, and perfectibility with Cruise control.

I have shortlisted the following:

Corrola 1.8 VVTL T sport
Mazda 2 2.0 Sport
Civic 2.0 Type S (old style 2002 - 2005)

And I don't like derv.

Any advice/recommendations on the above.
