Suzuki Swift Sport 2007

need a low cost motor for a couple of years and narrowed it down to Fiat Panda 100HP and the Swift, any owners of Swifts who could give me their thoughts? Being slightl put off the Fiat by reports of seriously hard ride (I am 40 and do not think my back could cope!), buckling wheels and not being brilliantly built. I hear the Swift is good to drive and very well built...is this true in the real world?

What would you like to know?
just looked at your profile, I like what you have done
am I too old to drive this car though?!!!
what i need is a car that is properly reliable so the monthly costs over and above petrol are very low + good fun to drive, hence the ruling out of say a Golf diesal.
have no problem with small as I have a family motor as well so thougt this would be ideal for my country and a road work dash
jsut by looking at your profile I can tell you like your Swift (I even like the name as it is my fave bird!)

Reliability issues are nothing to worry about. Just too little niggles and one major like from what iv heard, the ESP traction control light, linked to the ECU can sometime take a tantrum, near about £1k too repair if you take it to the dealership. However it is very rare!
Engine and gearbox are solid as long as you know how to drive it properly
These love B roads! And the twisties! Somehow it tends to oversteer more when you really chuck it in the bends.
Motorways, not to much. It can get pritty noisy at 70+ , there are ways around it which are fitting a longer 5th gear.
I love it
standard they are brilliant. But looking through Singapore swift forums and the uk forums, i caught the mod bug!Theres plenty of advice on SSOC.co.uk!
Any more questions, more than happy to answer

I went and drove my first one yesterday and yes what a greart little car, yes a bit noisy and I can see why it would be a bit tiring at motorway speeds after a while, but for such a small car it had a great feeling of solidity and was surprisingly roomy in the front
this particular one was a early 07 car and had 39k, I was slightly surpised at how many little nicks and scratches it had esp below the tail gate and the interior, perhaps I am being picky and i guess the hard plastics scratch easily, and the seat bolster at the bottom of driver seat was wearing, is this par for the course? I reckon i could get it for £4k? and a previous owmer had shoved some white material in between the windscreen and the dash I am guessing to sort a rattle, is that a known rattle area?!

That ones seems to be at a good mileage! Mines is a 59 plate, nearing on 39k miles! yeah the interior does scratch easily, especially women in spikey high heels trying to climb out of the back seats! Another thing you may or may not have found was the seats, the folding mechanism is a right pain! Once you fold the seat down, you have to readjust it when putting it back up.I went and drove my first one yesterday and yes what a greart little car, yes a bit noisy and I can see why it would be a bit tiring at motorway speeds after a while, but for such a small car it had a great feeling of solidity and was surprisingly roomy in the front

Bolster wear is a common problem with any bucket seat tbf, easily fixed though.
The rattles, the squeaks. Yep, the swift does unfortunately suffer quite bad for this. My dash rattles sometimes, but iv never really bothered putting foam between it. My seats squeek, dash rattles, my boot shelf rattles against the spare wheel...its got as much rattles as a WRC car...i just turn the volume up

I am ashamed to say I could not quite cope with the smallness and rattleness of the Swift much as it was a fab car to drive and have just bought a late '04 plate Civic Type S
being old insurance basically the same, mpg the same, tyre costs the same and just that bit more refined and comfortable, sorry to all Swift lovers and thanks for all your advice

Bit late, but thought I'd add my experience. I'm in my 40s
2010 model. Adjustable rear ARB, sports exhaust, front strut, upgraded brakes, sports suspension.
This is my daily drive as well as occ track use. Great fun, cheap to run, handles and sounds great, easy to park etc.
These are a legend at the Ring...
