3k'ish for a nice jap car
Discussion
Right, ive got about 3k for a new jap car, did have 4 earlier today, but it would seem i am the worst at saving!
What can i get? i can probably get £750 for my car (FTO), so probably can spend around 3.5k in total.
I want something that can fit the kids in but sporty at the same time, and quite newish, was looking at rx8s but dont like the horror stories!
any suggestions please?

Look up a Celica 190 / T Sport, under rated, and plenty of boot space and fold down seats. Plus, a VVTLi engine similar to the VTEC, great fun.
load of rubbish, might have 190 bhp but none of its there below 6000 rpm,got to rev the tits out of them to get anywhere and feels flat as a pancake with no torqueI toyed with the idea of building one last year for a standard roadgoing race series but after driving it on the road decided it would be too hard to drive on the track trying to keep it in the powerband all the time
but on the plus side they do look nice and are well built
I know Rob who is selling this car and imo its a utter bargain and the best GT4 on sale now - mods done are not silly ones and turn it into a proper fast road car

Buy a Mazda RX8 for £1000 with compression issues/hot start. You can get a top of the range 231, 05 or 06 plate.
For a full rebuild of the engine with a years warranty, its £2250 all in, labour, parts, everything; http://www.rotaryrevs.com/content/services/engine-...
Id also buy new spark plugs, leads and coils as a precaution. That's £280-££340,
Id throw another £250 for an engine port which will boost the mid range torque and give more horsepower to the wheel, as the 228bhp is a very flattering figure, around 190bhp-200bhp is more accurate.
So to recap; £24k 05 or 06 plate car when new and you get a full rebuild, years warranty and coils/leads/sparks; £3600 tops. Nothing can be had for that price at all.
Insurance is also cheap, even for me at 22 it was £1200 going down to £700 in June. Its not the fastest in a straight-line, but nothing compares to the ride and handling in the slightest.
