Tweaking my MR2 T-bar for more Performance

Well I just got my old T-bar back from the dead, it was in the middle of a nettle patch with 1/4 in of water in the footwell a month ago.

Rather than stuffing a 3GTSE turbo engine in I just want to tweak up the performance a bit. My first thoughts have turned to an air induction system ( any recommendations, are they worth it ) and a 'Power Module' plugged in between the car's sensor and the ECU, the ones that tell the car engine that cold air is coming in and advance the ignition timing ( again any experiences / recommendations ). Are these mods worth it? Or should I start to look at more expensive/ permanent options like a performance 'chip' or even a supercharger conversion?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

sell it and buy a turbo, end of. Modification of the standard item would be an idiotic way forward.

Cost of moddifying an NA is absurd compared to the cost of just buying a turbo... Go to any mr2 forum and they will tell you the same thing. I had my NA 6 months before I chopped it in for a turbo...

Hmm - are we definately talking about a Mark 2 here... it's not been specified, and no cars in the profile!!

Although I guess either way - slap in the 3sgte and make a beast out of it

Listen to advice already mentioned, just sell it and buy a turbo, will be a lot cheaper overall

Okay I'm getting the consensus here a turbo would be the best solution.

Just out of interest is it that the mods mentioned just won't help much ( excluding the supercharge which I imagine would )?

It's a MK2 buy the way, NA 16v 2.0, no cat.

Was thinking about sticking the turbo engine in, Fensport do a complete unit incl ancillaries for £1500, fitting I guess another £1000, then I need to uprate the shocks and springs £800 (?)... Oh buggerit I might as well have the summer then sell it and get a turbo for next year.....

Rogue Systems will do a complete turbo conversion for £2500 (IIRC).

IMO, much better to just sell your motor and buy a nice tubby

Just buy a turbo!
Try your damnest to get a rev 3, as they are 245 stock, as opposed to 225, and are significantly quicker in a straight line.

never said they were, its just that the rev 3's are quicker. I waited 6 months for a rev 3 to come up.
Rev 2 0-60 is about 5.7, and rev 3 is 5.2... or there abouts... Both are quick,but rev that little bit quicker!

Hmmm what if the running costs of a turbo ( ahem insurance etc ) were a tad fierce and so I wanted to get a bit more ooommff out of my NA, would cheapish things like a KN air box do me any good at all?

You'll notice about as much difference as farting out the window. It will sound a little throatier but that's it. Put the money into the turbo piggy-bank.

Might just do that, the saving my pennies for a turbo, not the farting out of the window, mind you I could try that too
