Just been down to my local car supermarket where they are flogging brand new euro import STi's for 21K. More like 22 with alarm and extra warrenty. Isn't that a 5K saving?

Should I buy one or will I be stuck with something that -

1. no UK dealer will touch

2. no insurer will touch

3. spares problems

4. wouldn't be able to get rid of when I come to sell?

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi Dave,

Euro cars should be fine for 1, 2 & 3 - as for 4, you may have to drop the price by a little extra, but you've already saved way more than that anyway...(It's Jap imports that suffer from these issues)
The only difference is that you will probably only get a 1 year warranty as opposed to 3(extendable to 5) which Subaru UK offer. (This tends to be no quibble in my experience)
Also bear in mind that Subaru UK have just dropped their prices by around £3K on most of their 2002 models, as the 2003 facelift car is just around the corner.

From what I have read on Scoobynet Uk dealers offer pants trade-ins even on UK cars. Get a quote for the insurance before you get serious, do a search on Scoobynet for "Insurance" and you should be able to get some names and figures, seem to remember people talking about "Liverpool ..." cant remember the full name of the company but they are cheap.
Parts will not be an issue, a dealer will be more than happy to sell you his mother at the right price !!

Have you checked on the price of a UK car? With the recent price reduction you may be able to pick up a UK car for about £22 - £23k if you are worried.
