Cage for an MX-5

pmanson's post has reminded me that, all being well, there should be some additional monies coming my way in June next year, as such, I intend to make some modifications/upgrades on the Mazda..
One thing I really want to do is pop a cage in it, but where best to get one? They turn up on ebay from time to time, but that isn't the best route if you want to do something at a specific time!
Any recommendations for somewhere (midlands-ish) that could carry out such a task?
In the event of me not being able to do that (or if there is sufficient money to do both) I intend on fitting a GReddy Emanage Ultimate (future proofing for potential further tweaking).. any recommendations on places for fitting that?

Go for a proper standalone ECU a Link G1 is only £500 really good ECU. Getting an Emerald3d in mine next month, but maybe in the future may look for a link G2... possibly, the emerald3d is also very good value mind but slightly more money.
As for cages, do you want a full motorsport style cage or a proper effective roll bar? The HardDog range are very good, lots of pics of rolled cars with them fited on their website and they appear to stand up well.

Emanage Ultimate is standalone, it's the blue that isn't... Might consider the other options though...
Want a far more effective roll bar, but aren't too keen on hard dog..

well hello there stranger!!
about the cage.. if you go for somewhere that does custom jobs, see if you can get one that stays tight to the A-pillar, and goes through the dash, rather than looping round infront of it... if you can, I'll have one too!
EMU is interesting too.. wouldn't mind one of them.. but then there's the seat I need, and hte supercharger, and the brake kit, and the............ you get the idea!

Hiya fella.. I'm not sure if I'll go custom, might go for the same sort of think as one of the guys on Nutz, proper roll bar with door bars.. just want to really stiffen the body up..
The EMU really interests me, it also opens the door for future devices that blow air into the intake

I was working on the proviso of anything is better than nothing!!!
I'd go for a Jap made cage from an import (Ebay is your source), most are excellent fits, allow you to use the roof properly too. They might not be FIA/MSA approved but you don't need that.
I can highly recommend Cusco & Omura (sp) have had both and they were superbly made, well engineered an excellent fit & would genuinely help in a rollover.
My full cage was made of two cages joined at main hoop with MrWelder

my only cencern with cages like that, is that it looks like the 'hoop' is actually over your head, and that if you slid up the seat (hard rear impact for example) the top of your head would smash into the bottom of the rear hoop... is that the case, or are the photos a bit of an optical illusion in that respect?
other than that, that cage does look good.. and is nice an neat (with the exception of the A-pillar bars, which stil bugs me
).. and it's good that you can still use the roof with most of the good jap cages.
