FAO Supra bods, buying a 2JZ GTE??
Discussion
I suppose this is mainly aimed at Gazboy and Turbo T, but if anyone else has any experience, please share it
I'm looking at getting a 2JZ GTE engine and 5spd manual box from a MKIV Supra, but so far haven't been able to find any for sale.
Any ideas??
And roughly how much should I expect to pay for a decent one (runner with no issues, not fussed about rebuild's, uprated parts etc) and how much for a knackered one?
And a few more questions about the 2JZ GTE in general
1) What turbo's do they run as stock?
2) What boost do they run?
3) Stock BHP and torque figures?
4) What mods are needed to up the boost to carry 300-350bhp @ fly & rough cost?
Sorry for the randomness and the vagueness of my questions, but I'm weighing up a possible project, and have no idea where to start looking for info.
Cheers all,
Ed

Terry can answer the "where from" questions, but I can do the rest:
1) Toyota Hatachi CT12b's
2) 0.8bar boost
3) 325bhp, 330lbs/ft
4) Double decating mine sent the bhp from 330bhp to 357bhp (SRR) for £200 for the decat pipes & FCD (second hand of a club member) and a 52mm restrictor plate was FOC from Turbofit as they had one laying about.

The 2JZ wont be in a Supra, so I'll be making an exhaust (ie hacking & bodging), so its feasible that I could have 350bhp out of the box???
Now all I need is a rough price on a lump and I'm sorted

I'm in the process of fitting a 2.5 TT 1JZ (going big single turbo) into my Soarer so have all the wiring info your ever likely to need, they run the same loom & bits as it says so on the drawings. Happy to pass on any info.
PS the 2.5TT 1JZ is just as easy to tune, higher revving too, cheap at £500 & plenty about to buy

The engines are around 800 - 1500. They crop up un the MKIV Board,or in various breakers.
The turbo's are hitachi
Decatt pipes, the best are probably from JPS Motorport 01908 367100, you can chose from 2.5" to 3". If you are worried about over boosting, then go 2.5". Remove the first cat only and that will keep the boost in check. The power increase comes from additional boost. You may find you need an FCD if you are hitting too much boost. Buy a VFCC from Thor if this happens and you are still using the stock ecu.

If they pop up easily why cant I find any??
If you know of any let me know please declan..
Thought you sold the 1JZ
Cheers chaps
I should have asked about a price for the engine, box and turbo's, as I'm assuming they are quite pricey aswell
I've gotta factor in another £800 plus shipping for my potential project, so if it starts running well into the 000's I might have to hold off for a year or so.
But its definatley gonna be on the back burner

They'll sell for around £1200.
Is this for an A70?

Not all in - for a second hand block itself: no turbos, no ecu.
The A70's the Mkiii Supra. That's the best way - because there's so much aftermarket that you don't really want any Toyota but the block and head.

£500 buys you a 1JZ Engine out of a JZZ30 late shape Soarer (see man on Ebay), R154 manual box from a MA70 Supra will fit with the right bellhousing for similar money. Mine is planned to run just short of 500bhp on a big single tubby, is that enough for your application?
More than enough. I want to put it into an S13, and trying to weigh up the most cost effective way of getting 350bhp and over @flywheel.
350bhp from single turbo CA18 will be fairly expensive, and have a bit of lag, whereas 350bhp from a TT 2JZGTE will be almost stock and have much less lag (if any)
But the conversion kit works with MK4 Supra kit, so I dont know if the MA70 box will work

R154 in an MA70 GTE,
V160 in the A80GTE.
If it's a kit they're non compatible, but if you're doing it, it's cheaper results.
You'll struggle to find a 1JZ, though.
This chap on Driftworks has just turned his car (literally) into a donor vehicle, I assume its a 2JZ might be worth getting in contact

I saw that the other day. He did a good job on it though, not a single panel left intact
Shame I'm not gonna have that kind of money for a fair while yet
