One of my friends is looking at buying a Lexus IS200, he's found one he likes which is a 2002 IS200 sport with 18" alloys, it's done 46,500 miles comes with full service history which Lexus dealer is wanting £11,500 for. I've had a look and it doesn't seem too bad a price from main dealer but what he'd like to know is if there are any known problems with these cars. I know Lexus's are meant to be reliable but most cars do seem to have some problems and just wanted to get an idea of if there is anything to look out for on the car.

The only problem that I had with mine was the alloys corroding. Lexus replaced these under warranty without prompting so with any luck the same will have been done to this one as it was a known weak spot.

Other than that, Tony at WIM was mentioning that Lexus themselves have sent IS200s to him to recover the geometry and reduce tyre wear problems so may be worth getting it along to him.

No other problems in 99k and 2.5 years for mine.

One major problem is they are really really slow.

Compared to what? It's quicker than the equivalently priced BMW 318.
