After having to look at the MPS at work since xmas and not drive it,today the day finally arrived when I finally got let loose with it. First of all it isnt as aggressive to look at as VXR and ST etc,but there is something about it when you see it in the flesh, especially in the red. When I turned the key it didnt sound like I was expecting. But the power of this thing is absolutely ballistic and believe it or not well harnessed. You can feel a slight pull in the steering when you first set off but nothing major like the VXR.But the sheer pull of that lump, with lots of torque it is fantastic fun,it corners brilliantly and the ride is very comfortable. No doubt there will be people who would rather an ST,VXR or Golf, but I honestly believe they will be missing out.Dont knock it until you have tried it,I dont think we will have much trouble selling the 1000 units coming to the UK

I'm just waiting for a call from my local Mazda dealer to get a drive in thier demo.
I have the 6MPS now, so am trying to get the missus to chop in her Toyota Corolla for the 3.
You really do have to drive these things to know how capable they are.

Yes as I have said previously selling Mazda cars puts food on my table, however I think the MPS range is the most underated range of affordable sports cars available. If anybody is in the market for a hot hatch they should give the MPS a go. You won't know if you don't try

I drove one a few weeks back.....FANTASTIC!

Even with all of that power going through the wrong wheels it is still good fun! Only once had the traction control jump in, and that was despite it being very wet!!

Shame they have missed a few crucial bits off, which are available in the rest of the range, cruise is my biggest want...

Still My G/F has vetoed it as I have the 4x4 and she has the mile muncher....and at 25mpg if you're lucky its not a viable option

Still waiting for the 2l D sport to come out in Feb....and that should be the weapon of choice!!!!

I was thinking about test driving this car in weybridge the weekend, but unsure about the look of the car, I am sure the power is there, so was I right they are bringing a better engine out. Is it worth a test drive then? changing the 4x4

I'm thinking of changing my car this year. I have to say I'd not even thought of one of these till now (Been looking at Seat Leon Cupra, Honda Civic Type R, Astra VXR etc), but I think I might look into one.

Hopefully the interior looks a bit better in reality as it looks a bit ordinary in the photos (Standard looking seats with just an MPS logo sewn into them etc.)

The only troulbe now is I've given myself even more cars to choose between! confused

i drove a normal (2.0) Mazda 3 when looking for a car for my mother and tbh was very unimpressed...it just felt so "bland" and uninvolving compared to, say, a Honda or a SEAT Leon. The Golf Plus she ended up buying was bland but at least felt very sturdy and had lots of clever interior bits. Is the MPS completely different?

Bit off topic but is the 6 MPS as scrabbly as the standard 2 litre one I drove last week?

Never have I driven something with such little front end grip, spun the wheels at the merest hint of throttle....was very wet though.

yes

The Mazda 6 rental I drove once, I reckoned to be pretty good TBH, just needed a little more 'meat' to the feel of the controls...

The 6MPS is all wheel drive, with some electronic gadgetry controlling the power distribution to the wheels depending on driving conditions.
It works very well, once you have faith to push it.
I been out at Brands(short circuit) and Croft on TVRCC days with my 6 and to be honest, considering the nature of the circuits and the weight of the car, it was very impressive.
