EVO VIII Running Costs
Discussion
I'll be checking out the Evo Forums as well but....
I need a serious idea of running costs of an EVO VIII FQ300/FQ330 including real world mpg. I know the servicing is every 4500 miles (!!!) but what are the service costs (main dealer to get an idea).
I know this really isn't a car for doing lots of miles in but I need a 4 seater car for work and am still looking for options that dont involve getting a diesel hack and a second garaged fun car as I really dont have the space. If the costs of running an evo over my current type r civic are less than say the second insurance on a fun car then it may still make sense.
I drove a 6 a couple of years ago and loved it.

I've had a few of these so can comment on running costs.
Main dealer services range from £220 for small one to £290+ for a regular one.
If it still has a factory warranty you'll need servicing every 6 months (regardless of miles) or 4,500 miles.
I'd suggest not using main dealer and use someone like Extreme in Dudley or Steve Hill Motorsport, slightly cheaper and have a better idea of what they are doing v's main dealer monkeys.
Full consumption is around 20mpg but its easy to get that down sub 15mpg.
Great cars, very reliable, lots of fun per £ / spent!

I've currently got an VIII MR FQ300.
If car is under manufacturers warranty like mine then I'd tend to
stick with dealer servicing - IF you can find a good one.
You may need to do this to retain the warranty, unless the car is relatively new,
when new legislation came in to allow non franchised dealers to service, PROVIDING
they follow the manufacturers service shcedule and use genuine parts.
The MLR peeps will be able to tell you about dealers - we're a friendly bunch
£35 per year membership fee, but worth it for the group buys alone.
If you have 2 local dealers you can usually play them off against each other.
I got my last 4,500 miles service for a tad under £180, but have had to pay £250
in the past - tend to provide my own oil which saves £35 or so.
The 45,000 service is the big one with timing belt - around £700-ish!
Once out of warranty go specialist as it will be cheaper.
The VIII has a 12 gallon tank - earlier versions had a 10 gallon tank - and I get
240 miles or so from a tank driving 20 miles a day to and from work, so it lasts me just over 2 weeks if I don't use the car at weekends.
I have had this down to 10 mpg for spirited driving and up to 32 mpg on the motorway in 6th.
I use Tesco 99 RON which is cheaper than Optimax.
Insurance is the killer as the car is group 20, or 20D if the insurer does it
that way. Pace Ward, the official MLR insurer or Keith Michaels seem to be good,
but Elephant were best for this year, after Admiral last year.
Do a search on the MLR for Aidy's Insurance list - about 50 companies to call!
Really helps if you have a garage, tracker, disklok etc as well.
You'll go through tyres as well
235/45 17 are standard size - Toyo T1Rs will be about
£100 each from Mytyres - depending on how you drive it, and the general road surfaces in your area, you may get 9000 miles out of them - some people get a LOT less.
The default Yokohama A-046 are OK in warm dry weather - not too good in wet, and crap in
cold and wet.
And of course, then there's the mods - you'll start with carbon dress up bits,
then mudflaps, then an exhaust, decat pipe etc and before you'll know it new
engine bits as well!!!!
