Does anyone else know where there is such prejudice against Japanese cars ?
Or have you not noticed it ?

not especially.

You tend to find people are quite 'brand/country' loyal, and infact, I think the worst offenders are German and Japanese car owners anyway.

Well what I mean is when you go to a tunnel run, or something similar... or is it just me being paranoid ?

Do you wear a tinfoil hat?

seriously though, i cant comment, I havent been on a tunnel run, I never felt I got any predujice on here when I had my jap car... however when I went to a german one, i got loads of flak from people i knew with jap cars and a very narrow view of the world!

Well I’ve been on a few PH events including tunnel runs and I don’t have a hugely powerful or expensive jap car but I have not noticed any prejudice and haven’t felt left out. Infact I read a thread a while ago where somebody from a tunnel run actually complimented an FTO (not mine tho rolleyes )

To be honest it’s probably a case of who you speak to when at an event I spoken to some who turn their noses up at the mention of a Jap car but then there are those who are genuinely interested in the car and can appreciate a car for what it is and not the badge or cost.

Here in NZ its more the opposite - as jap cars as so cheap and easy to get, people who drive European cars are often thought to be arrogant gits, or latte-sipping snobs. This is more in terms of general numpty-public perception than car enthusiasts though, which you can split into a few stereotype groups:

* V8 lovers - Aussie V8s especially but also yank muscle

* Jap-turbonutters - mostly younger/ includes boyracer crowd, like Imprezas/Evos/Nissans etc, JDM cars very cheap and accessible here so easy to buy/modify/drive.

* Euro performance cars - sometimes seen by others as posers, but actually more likely to get out on track etc and use their cars properly. Also commonly higher driving standard I'd think.

* People like me, who enjoy and appreciate all good cars in their place.

It might be partly because people who spend a lot of money on a European performance car get miffed because someone in a japanese performance car costing 50p left them behind at the lights. I might be wrong, though.

I only took my car out ONCE on a tunnel run back in 05. Since then I've luckily been a passenger in many many different amazing cars, so Im not talking from experience as such.

Anyway, I was just curious

I think thats sometimes why they get a hard time, going on about how good their car is because its 'just as fast' and a 10th of the price of someone elses...

Some people care more about just performance and price, and raving on about how much better your car is, well its likely to get peoples backs up.

And Gaz, your probably right to be honest, when i had the jap car it was reliable as anything, i never gave it a second thought, though wished i had the build quality of the German cars I drove... now im in a german car part of me misses the 'worry free' motoring of the jap car hehe

swings and roundabouts...

Though i dont think its explicitly japs and germans - I know a lot of americans only buy US cars (and others who only buy german), not sure, but i wouldnt be surprised if the french had their following too...
