Here's a question for you.
I own a bog standard 52 plate MR2. I love it, but...
Can you make these things go faster
I know jack all about making cars faster. I dont get the techno babble and all I care about really are the ££££'s!!! So, in lamens terms, what could I do to the car to make it have more umph
and how much of course.

Is it an n/a? If so, then you'd probably be best upgrading the brake fluid, pads, and maybe braiding the lines. Get good rubber on it, then look at fettling with the engine.

..and what is braiding the lines? As I mentioned, I dont know anything about engines, please explain a tad bit more for me.

Personally, before I made any modifications to the engine, I would sort out any other issues. Get the brakes sorted, (pads, fluid, etc), suspension modifications, nice tyres, etc, THEN worry about engine stuff, such as cams, exhausts, decats, downpipes and all that fun stuff. So what you suggest relies on working on the brakes and tyres more than the engine?

The weekends run got you craving more power then!
Pop over to www.mr2roc.org/, theres plenty you can do. But it all costs money, i'd rather save for a while longer and then buy a quicker car, although the silverstone kits do look very good fun.

<azda built the MR2? Hmmm.. Yamaha at a stretch, but not Mazda! I agree with the Turbo suggestion, however depending on his/her ability I wouldn't suggest it straight off. The NA is a great car to get used to the mid engine layout. Then he could head off in the nutter mobile direction.

Yeah, its on my mind now....but I love my baby red! Was hoping for a quick easy umph boost to install and then that'll be it. I just dont get the technical stuff so the roc info goes straight over my head.
I agree though, save the £££ and just upgrade in time to come
Saturday was alright really, I'm just curious to know what I could do...

52 is 2002 (Can't remember if its Feb or Sept though???). I will check out the Silverstone info tho.

Pretty much always the cheaper option. What's a 5 year old MR2 worth? 7-8k? Add the cost of a conversion to that to see what's in your price range.
Alternatively - if you do love your roadster too much to replace - modding is always fun but also an exercise in throwing away your money.
For what I've spent on modding my RX-7 I could be driving round in a 911 (993) turbo. Cerbera/Tuscan/T350. M3. AMG Merc. Exige. etc. As it is I have a '92 mazda that'd probably resell for 8k!!!

The way I read it is he meant that why on earth would you have the MR2 when the MX5 is faster. Not sure about the turbo comments but there are bolt on turbos for both cars. TTE do a rather nice set up IIRC for the MR2. Chum of mine turbo'd his MR2 and did a fine job of it. What's the MRS? Is that not a turbo'd MR2? I don't actually know much about MR2s - does it show?!! lol
