The lady has seen a Mk3 MR2 on a 52 plate, Black with Red leather etc, 30k on clock that she wants to buy.

I have done some searching through the forums and they appear to be pretty bullet proof but wondered if any owners / mechanics have any info on what to look for when test driving / viewing the car.

Any help is always appreciated.

Cheers
Sebo

Very important.. Keep an eye out for the engine. When driving it, if you hear a whining, whirring noise, buy it, as it's got a supercharger on it!

haven't heard much in the way of reliability problems, to be honest. Toyota do have an excellent reputation. It doesn't have a boot, but then again I'm sure you knew that.

I know a guy who just imported a gorgeous white one!

The Turbo's are supposed to be a handful but the NA one's are supposed to be a helluvalot of fun!

Got one and am thoroughly enjoying it!

Its not an everyday car and being a 52 plate, the mileage on mine is excellent so peraps a I'm being a little biased but I've had no problems, no issues and no doubts. I love it - get it.

They're rarer than MX5's and thanks to my new found Loti buddies (and drives out with them), I have since learnt that the bog standard n/a engine is rather fast and great fun and will keep up too!

Buy it!

Actually, thats a pretty handy link. I was just reading the post about 'ears' when you put the roof down! I did spot how neat and tidy your's were the other day. I didn't realise they were supposed to tuck in eek

Right, were are my keys!

I'm not stalking you, honest.

Yep the roof does go down nicely, i find it helps if you push the window down gently as you lower it.

Right i must get out and get the roof off before the sun disappears

Yep, I always push the window down too.

I checked out the thing that you can use to pull those 'ears' in, the tie piece that you click in and fasten when lowering the roof and it's k'nackered! Tyical...basically one of the clips has been crushed when the roof has been lowered in the past. I can probably reshape it but still!

Thats probably why I didn't know that they existed...the dealer most likely negleted to tell me that bit! (Or they are just morons and dodnt know about it themselves!)

Thats better!

p.s - ara, if you want to join me on a drive just let me know. I did head out yesterday about 5pm and had a corker of a drive! Would have been good to have company!!

I've had a Mk3 since 2003 and it's a fantastic little car. There's space under the bonnet and behind both seats for storage. I use mine on a daily basis for work and shopping runs but as there's only two of us it doesn't cause that many problems in terms of space.

We've been modifying mine so it's slightly lower, stiffer and has a new exhaust with no pre-cats in and it's running very well. As it was second hand when I bought it we had the seals replaced around the roof by the garage but it's been running smoothly since.

I've already taken it on several track days (Bedford being the most recent one on the 17th March) and it absolutely flies! Because it's light and well balanced it is well behaved through the corners though it does get a little lost in the long straights! It was also driven by a professional racing driver at Bedford to show me what it can do and MR2 can outhandle a lot of bigger more powerful cars.

Handling wise, you do need to be careful as it's rear wheeled, but with the engine positioning it's a little more predictable than some other cars. Go for it - you may find yourself pleasantly surprised.

I had one for 2.5 years, great car.

The only problem I had was the power steering pump failed but this was fixed under warranty.

Dealers seem pretty good and service costs are quite low.

Downsides: handling can be snappy on the limit (especially in the wet) and because you are lower than most cars some drivers do not see you ...

Car purchased!

Picking it up on Friday.

Black, red leather, chrome over bar, factory fit CD Radio cassette, twin exit exhaust. Whoever ticked the options list from new must have spent a few quid on it.

I was shocked when I saw the storage (or lack of it), but we both agreed - what the heck, we've no children and the summer's coming! (Also, we are moving up from a Saxo so the build quality will look fantastic in comparison).

Fingers crossed we get a dry weekend so we can get the roof down.

Roll on the Roadster!

Congratulations!! I would be envious but mine is just sitting outside!!
The colours scheme and extras sound lovely. My favourites are Black and Red 2's!!

You wont be dissapointed.....

...oh, and dont wait for the weekends to put the roof down. If it's dry, always have it down. Its blasphemous not to angel

ara2312 - does my Bournemouth knowledge serve me well - from your pic it looks as though you live very close to where I lived whilst at uni.

I was on queens road, just down from the car garage, Himalayan etc..

Am I right?
