2004 WRX, £7k to spend on tuning...but what?
Discussion
Well, finally taking the plunge and going for a 2 y/o WRX estate, 'wagen - thingy. Found a Co who will lease a 2 y/o. I like the subtle'ish looks and would like to get 1. More Power 2. Lose the scoop via a front mounted intercooler 3. Improve handling a wee bit. Could anyone please advise me on the best place to spend the cash? Over 300bhp would be nice..
No need for a front mount, not unless your planning on running 400+, which you can't anyway, because the internals are pushing it at 350bhp.
Best bet is a sport-cat or a decat, panel filter and Ecutek, should see you up to 280 ish.
Over that probably a bigger turbo (VF35 is good on that engine but the wastegate will need porting otherwise you will have a boost creep problem. Then is also a good time to get an uprated top mount.
Depending where you are in the country i can recommend someone

Thanks for all of the advice to date, I'll look into all of the ideas. Interestingly I just saw a 2 year old WRX PPP for £14K which looked to me like it had what I'd probably end up doing to it, already done..
Trust me when i say the aftermarket conversions are far better than the PPP..
All of the companys mentioned are great.

I picked my Sti up on Friday after having the PPP fitted as part of my purchase.
I drove it 2 weeks before the kit was fitted. Ok you can tell the diffence but there is not enough power there for me. If you have 7k to spend there are so many better options to go for rather than the PPP, which if speak to a Subaru dealer you should be able to purchase for next to nothing.

All have created great cars, and know Subaru's inside out, and have stages of tune you can go for at set prices.
I'm looking around at the minute at kit for my car as I will be upgrading in May, at the minute Scoobyclinic seems to have the best options for me.
Good luck.

Don't forget Zen Performance in wellingborough....the chap there does all the ECU re-maps for TSL and he's very good with anexcellent rep. TSL 100 cell fast flow cat group N exhaust system is excellent as well as the green panel air filter then go for the stage 2 tune. I have the filter on mine and it makes a real difference to the throttle response... and I have the group N backbox too (it sounds lovely...all throbby and warm) with the rest of the exhaust to follow shortly. However... I will be doing the remap myself......Wish me luck!!

I agree with Vixpy...however.....if you don't want the tea tray with rally look and prefer the Qcar street sleeper look, and have your heart set on the WRX...go for the sportwagon. Very practical and very Qcar. Believe it or but one of the guys at TSL told me the sportwagons handle better than saloons because apparently the body is stiffer. This is what i have been told and i trust the guys at TSL...that they wouldn't tell me porkie pies. Also on the latest WRX's the standard 2.5WRX engine will take 320bhp no probs and stay reliable, but that is not far off the limit of the gearbox (330lbft) which is more than enough for most of us i think, in which case you then have an STi PPP beater!!
Thanx. 330bhp would probably be ample and the local Subaru dealer said he preferred the 'wagens' handling too. I imagine also (wealth permitting) that stronger internals than the STi's could be bought to go along with all of the other expensive bits needed should lots more power someday be required..
