Hi,

New Impreza arrived today (2007 WRX Saloon), with standard 17" wheels, inc. Bridgestone Potenza tyres (215/45 RE050A R17).

Anyone suggest the best tyre pressures to run front and rear.... the car will usually be used by just me on A&B roads with occasional Motorway use.

I've had a flick through the manual several times and can't seem to find the page with Subaru's suggestions!

Cheers,

Craig

The guys up at TSL near Nottingham sell wheels with tyres. For the standard 215/45/17 they reccommend 34Front/32Rear. I have 225/45/17 Toyo TR1's on my WRX sportwagon and it drives really well on 35Front/33Rear for the road. Although if you were on a track i would add a bit more to stiffen the sidewalls and go 37-38Front/35Rear. All the numbers are PSI.

Enjoy your new pride and joy, hope this helps thumbup

Thanks for your advice matey.... i'll give those pressures a try.

To be honest, i'll be running the car in for the next 1,000 miles so am unlikely to push it to the limit anytime soon!

Cheers,

Craig

I am running 32 Front and 30 Rear, and have had a few problems with understeer, but a full geo setup with the prodrive setting have helped.

IMHO i think your pressures are too low and you will get understeer as the tyrewalls, especially at the front, are flexing too much. Scoobys are very sensitive to differences in tyre pressures as are many performance cars and being 1psi out will make a big difference, so by putting 34psi in the front and 32psi in the rears you will eliminate some understeer and sharpen up the steering response. You will feel the car is a little bit more taut as you go into corners which is a good thing and not only will that make the handling much better but you will enjoy the ride more.

Then hopefully you should get more benefit from the Prodrive Geometry setup. Good luck

Ta for that will give that a go over the next week.. Still experimenting with tyres and finding one that suits my driving style is what i am trying to do.

Just make sure that when you do your tyre pressures the tyres are stone cold i.e. you have not used the car or it has been stationary for at least a couple of hours or so, otherwise the pressure reading will be wrong. With warm tyres you get a higher reading. Get yourself an accurate pressure guage in psi or bar, preferebly mechanical and with a circular scale that goes up to 60psi or 4 / 4.5bar max. That way you know the reading will be spot on.

Tyre pressures are important and really affect the way a scooby drives so if the rest is good (suspension/geometry) then with good tyres and correct tyre pressures the handling should be outstanding.
