New Evo X - just...

Mitsubishi almost show us the next Evo

The Evo is X is on its way. Eventually...
After a series of concepts, we’re getting ever closer to seeing the new Mitsubishi Evolution X. Although the Japanese firm is still insisting this is an exterior design study, we can’t believe it’s going to change much from the car you see here.

Not many other details have been released, although it does appear that a manual gearbox will now be an option in the UK; it was thought a six-speed DSG gearbox would be the only transmission available over here.

Expect also Mitsubishi’s latest S-AWC3 four-wheel drive system and MIVEC4 valve control for the two litre turbo motor.

The official production car will debut at the Frankfurt motor show before going on sale in the UK in March 2008. After the disappointment of the new Subaru Impreza, these Evo pictures have cheered us up considerably…

What's to study?! Looking at the Subaru shopping trolley hatch Mitsubishi will have the hardcore rally rep market to themselves.

Fantastic looking car. Subaru have dragged the Impreza name through the dirt with the new one.
Anyone else noticed the different tread pattern on each front tyre?

Beautiful car! Seriously, someone needs to slap Subaru in the face and wake them up, because the WRX has looked like ass since about 2002.

Now, if only Mitsubishi would release a 200HP, AWD version of the Lancer that managed 30 MPG highway (US) I'd be all over it. I don't need 300HP (rather have fuel the efficiency), and if I'm going to be stuck with FWD there are a million other cars I could be looking at.

Looks great! Aggressive and purposeful, just what you want from a car like this.

Agreed, looks good. But does anyone else think the rear end, especially with that wing, looks like an Alfa 156?

Mind you, guess thats no bad thing!

Does look nice! I really think its influenced a lot by alfa, bmw and audi. They look like theyre aiming for more european styling instead of out and out jap.

Just a shame they never produce a 2 door. A 2 door version of that would look fantastic.

Yes! they didn't ruin the hardcore machinery with a puppy-dog kitten-soft excuse for a front end!

The back and sides don't fit the front that well. Could do with a more angular back to give it that 'Jap' look. Overall it is a good look though - I love the front of it!

yea I was thinking along those lines as well... with each of these concepts getting closer and closer to production, its looking more and more normal - that may also be because theyve shown this thing so damn often

...but then again, it could end up looking identicle to the stock Lancer and would still be quite a bit better than the WRX

Hope the production version comes with the same tyres all round. Unlike the concept version seen here.

I think there is a hint of updated EVO5 in that.

Quite like it.
