Skyline 50th Birthday

GTR news 1: new Skyline coupe shown

New Skyline coupe
New Skyline coupe
Nissan raised a glass to 50 years of the Skyline last week, and also used the opportunity in Tokyo’s Midtown district to give the new Skyline Coupe its first public appearance. This is the car that will form the basis of the next GTR - currently in the latter stages of its development.

Nissan had the chief engineer present from each generation of Skyline dating back to 1957 and also laid on a rather bizarre fashion show with models wearing garments representing each era of the car.

Any cake left, Nissan?

What do you get if you cross an Audi TT with a Hyundai Coupe.

I thought Audi/Lexus.

It really weakens the Skyline image. hurl

What is it with new jap cars being so awful?

Atleast old subarus looked 'mean' though bland; skylines better with angular bits both had a sense of purpose. The crap being turned out now is still bland but with soft edged curvyness and shiney bits, may work for sleepers but little else.

try again ..

The thing with the skyline name, is it makes people automatically think of the GTR's. The skyline is, was and always has been a range of cars, ranging from the dull as ditchwater underpowered family 4 door variant to the Bahnstorming GTR.
The one shown is a good car in it's own right, but it's not what most Skline fans think of when they hear the name.

First thing I though on seeing the picture of the Skyline (not the Lexus) was that it was a Lexus.

Indeed. In fact, I seem to recall that Nissan are effectively splitting the range by calling the new GTR just "Nissan GTR" and not "Nissan Skyline GTR" - in other words, it won't actually be a Skyline as such.

I'm confused. I thought this was going to be the the new GTR.

Now that's more like it

Either there is a distinction between GTR and Skyline GTR as JonRB suggested or maybe its the Japanese and American versions.

thats like the one ive seen lapping the ring this thursday friday although it was disguised front and rear. i dont think people will be disapointed with the car when its out in 2008 if the prototypes anything to go by as it looked good and was very very quick!!!

The new GT-R will not be marketed as a Skyline, it's a separate car.
