Hi folks, dows anyone have any ideas why the above indicator should be showing, it seems to come on when I accelerate and go out when i take my foot off the pedal, any ideas would be most welcome.

Your Outback must be fairly new. VDC is the latest stability Control System fitted to outback and tribeca models, and to the legacy for 2007. If your light keeps coming on when you accelerate and off when you take your foot off then there is a definate fault with it. It should only come on in circumstances when assisted traction is required i.e. skidding, wheel slip etc...

As it's fairly new it must be under warranty and therefore a trip to the dealer is required and should cost you nothing.

Not quite - they made Legacy GT VDC's as far back as 2000ish (that I can remember) and I think a few Outbacks with it as well, they may not have made it to the UK though.

But regardless of the age, it sounds like it may just be a loose wire or contact? If you have the VDC turned off the light should be on all the time, or if the VDC was faulty it'd be more likely to flash constantly rather than in time with the throttle.

Personally I can't see the point in stability control on an AWD Subaru, but thats a bit o/t
