Galant 2.5 v6 tiptronic/auto failures

Hi There,

I am just about to buy a 2002 galant estate 2.5V6 tiptronic but am thinking twice about it, as I am reading about gearbox failures even on well maintained cars. Has any one out there got any experience of this problem? It is just on the earlier cars? Any information would be usefull!
