A long shot on this forum. My wife has a 2004 X trail with nissan 136bhp diesel engine. Intercooler has failed and replaced under warranty. Is this a known fault?

Why does it matter if its been replaced under warranty?

How/ where did it fail?
Intercoolers are not complex - they tend to spilt at pipes or gaskets when old, or get a hole in them from eating gravel at speed.

Mostly they last the life of a car, like its radiator, so I'd imagine yours had some manufacturing defect. Precisely what a warranty is for.

It matters if you're keeping the car longer than warranty length. Heard that Nissan have replaced a number under warranty and wondered about the longevity of new intercooler. Not a cheap part if you have to pay yourself. New part only carries standard warranty of car and is not extended as a stand alone warranty.

Ahhh I wish this were true! My GT4's radiator recently went, its 11 years old. Car itself has loads of life left in it though biggrin

Well, yes. My 200SX intercooler heammoraged after 80k miles and 8 years... But certainly diesel intercoolers have a longer lifespan.
