never seen them before. they look like HB4's with the 90 degree elbow, or HB1's without. That's a main beam bulb isn't it?
not sure if that's any use as my skyline uses a different fitment, but I've always found these guys quite helpful..

That's right, it is the main beam bulb.

I've sent an enquiry to Autobulbs so I'll see how that goes.

There is a crowd in the US who do the exact bulb, but they haven't come back to me yet with the cost of shipping.

All this grief for a bloody bulb, eh? biggrin

HIR1 is an other name for HB3 bulbs same as HIR2 is an other name for HB4

HIR stands for (Halogen Infra Red) it's some fancy thing thats to do with the way it produce light.

Are you sure about this?

The fittings on it look the same but the bulb part looks different.

See .....

Perhaps they are interchangeable.

Autobulbs Direct replied but, unfortunately, they can't help.

there are different, however the HIR1 has the same fitting as a standard HB3 bulb so there totally interchangeable. the reason they are different is because the light producing part of the bulb uses different technology.

as i said before HIR stands for Halogen Infra Red which is to do with the technology use in the bulb,

personaly i would just go out and get a set of hb3 bulbs and be done with it

website selling car bulbs found though the use of google said:
Another IPF exclusive innovation the HIR (Halogen Infra Red) technology produces a brilliant white light that is double the intensity of other bulbs with the same wattage, with up to 72% Higher Lumens per watt. These bulbs represent the latest in lighting technology. A special reflective coating to the outer surface of an HIR bulb allows visible light to pass through while infra red light (not visible to the human eye) is reflected back onto the filament. This recycling effect superheats the filament thus increasing light intensity.

IPF's HIR bulbs feature the most advanced technology available in Halogen lighting market and truly compare to the performance of HID systems.

The HIR1/HIR2 Bulbs feature:

  • Double the Light Intensity of Standard Halogen Bulbs
  • 50% Longer Lifespan than Standard Halogen Bulbs
  • 50% More Energy Efficient than Standard Halogen Bulbs
  • Lower Operating Temperature than Standard Halogen Bulbs
  • Improved Beam Pattern over Standard Halogen Bulbs

I'd actually found them yesterday and e-mailed them.

They didn't reply yesterday and I've contacted them again today but still no reply yet (although it is only lunch time in the US now).

I've seen those other ones in a catalogue in the local auto factors so that may be the route I end up going.

I'll pop into the local auto-factors after lunch and see if they have them.

If not, a visit to the local Scoobie dealer will be on the cards.

I got a set of them and their fittings are very similar to the HIR1's but not identical.

A pair of bulbs only cost me €13.50.

You can see in the picture below that there are slight differences in the mounting tags on the side of the bulb.

I simply cut the one bigger tag (on the RHS of the RHS bulb in the picture) down to size and it went in fine.

There is no significant difference in the light between the two, and both the old and new are both 65W.

Thanks for the help folks.
