Whats Subaru P1 like for a daily driver
Discussion
To be honest it does obviously depend on how you drive it! My partner has one, and from what he told me, if I can remember rightly, it's about 24-25 mpg about town. The p1 doesn't really like about town driving! But it is a wonderful car to drive, and if you want to drive it around town, do so, you'll love every second of it!!!
Hope that helps.

See 'advice on P1 purchase' thread below.we had 1 at work and it got me thinking lol

I'd add that I had my P1 from new for 45000 miles and it never let me down. Sold it to buy a RB320 but I think that, in terms of pure driving fun, the P1's better.
Suitor matched to the M5 and I watched it glide into the distance.
So, let's cut to the quick gentlemen. I think the replacement has to be a P1.
Whilst drunk last night I had a brief daliance with the thought of a 22b
, but reading all of the contemporary road press they say that the Jap import 22b has manic low gearing and is skittish on UK roads. The UK version (Of which there were only 16) had a different final drive ratio fitted by Prodrive which made them less crazy, but didn't cure the skittish nature. Evo said "It has a knack of serving-up a tricky blend of understeer and oversteer in the same corner; scrubbing wide on the way in and wagging its tall sharply on the way out". Doesn't really sound ideal to me for Vmax frippery in the corners. Added to which, a decent 22b seems to be 20-25k+ whereas P1 giggles can be had for 10k less.
The Type 25 was interesting, but do you know what? I *really* missed the warble of the Impreza. A huge part of the character is the duggaduggadugga charm that it happily farts out of the back. The equal length manifold so favoured by Powerstation seems to give response and power gains, but to be honest the noise is a huge part of the experience of a car for me, so that rules out that. However it doesn't rule out me chatting with Powerstation exactly how we might accomodate the Cosworth block and still have the dugga into a P1 now does it? Although having said that, the Type 25 also made me think there is such things as too much power because of the compromises. Turbo spool time, the industrial button clutch, the change in balance coming under boost. Not convinced.
I've also looked at weight. Not just my own (he says looks down bleakly)
but all of the modern generation Imprezas are porky. The P1 was pretty much the end of the line for the GC chassis and weighs in at around 1280 kgs or so. The modern RB320 is 1520 kgs!!
That's getting into "you fat bastard" territory and negates any performance gains through more BHP. I'm also not sure that the new chassis offers *so* much handling benefit. Evo also rated the P1 ahead of the WR1 (which is based on the GD chassis)...
The hunt is on. I'm gathering information on the targets but an impending (But seemingly appropriate) trip to Japan is getting in the way.

Squire, just buy one, there's plenty to be had and you'll have sufficient left over for at least two choice subscriptions!
1280kg you say? Blimey, that explains a lot! Plus, given the way in which your old motor 'hauled ass,' I never thought the stated 280bhp of your car was entirely credible...
