Can anyone tell me the differences between models WRX, STi, RA etc or post a link please.

I'm looking at the classic shape turbos and want one with rear wheel bias (or adj). I had a look on Scooby Net but couldn't see anything obvious.

Thanks

Heres the basics:

UK turbo: 208 bhp / 1250-1300 kg, 50:50 AWD
WRX: 240/260/280 bhp (upgraded in 94 and 96) / 1250-1300 kg, 50:50 AWD
STi: "280" bhp (often more) / 1250-1300 kg, 50:50 AWD but different gear ratios, stronger LSD's etc.
STi type RA: "280" bhp (often more), 1150-1240 kg depending on year lightweight 4-door, DCCD (driver controlled centre diff, 64R:36F when open adjustable up to complete centre difflock for snow/gravel etc), close-ratio gearbox, more agressive LSDs, better suspension bits etc. Often no power windows/central locking etc, Base for grpN rally cars (factory roof scoop) hehe.
STi type R: Similar to RA but 2-door, a bit heavier than RA but often more luxuries, not all of them have the close-ratio box iirc but all have DCCD (except the 400 Aussie market cars)

DCCD cars are much more fun, sharper handling, better balance, power oversteer and also no ABS as it gets confused by the difflock.

Many stats on different models are here: www.english.auto.vl.ru

and also worth asking questions on: www.type-ra.co.uk

Ben (as always) is almost completely correct....

UK cars were 208 BHP until MY98, and then became 215 BHP.
RB5 (1999 only) was either cosmetic changes only, or it had the PPP applied, and if so had 237 BHP but more importantly 260 torques.
also the brakes changed from 2-pot to 4-pot in 1998 sometime.

thumbup Enjoy the hunt!

My pick would be an STi-RA V-ltd - the V-ltd cars were special editions, blue with gold wheels and some had nice touches like McRae and Grist autographs embroidered into the front seats. Easily identifiable by small plaques saying things like "#454/555", or "Subaru - World Rally Champions 1995".

Some of the V-ltd's also had a longer 5th gear than the regular RA to make motorway cruising a bit more bearable - the close-ratio box has a sweet sweet shift and its so easy to keep it in an ideal powerband, but does tend to rev fairly high when cruising.

Evo 6 is a better car.

I'd rather have an Evo...

But my insurers who are very reasonable with modifieds etc expressly ban Evos yet Scoobies / Skylines etc are ok.

I had a std UK version which was good but not really fun, but I think a RWD biased scooby will do the job.

I had the same issue (thought it was only me). Funny that they view an Evo as a significantly higher risk.

Previous insurer banned Cossies and Lotus Carltons...

then wanted all modified cars to have engineering reports and Cat Alarms...

present one I pay £750 fully comp for all my cars so I'm not moving !
