I really wish journos and those that write these articles would bother to get their information correct in the first place. There isn't going to be an officially imported WRX in the UK (as has been known for a while now) so the Ralliart Lancer won't be competing against Subaru's WRX over here. What tosh!!
It's the little details that makes an article an intersting and engaging read. They are suppose to be the motornews experts but this article in my opinion shows them up to be a bucnh of amateurs. The STi comes up nose to nose with the EVO X but then if you didn't know that already you shouldn't be writing articles for motor mags.

"First the new car wasn’t quite the vision we had in mind, then we were told we wouldn’t be getting the turbocharged 2.5-litre WRX version of the car in the UK, just the STi version. Then Subaru relented and said it would be bringing the car to us Brits after all.
And now there’s some rather good news, because Subaru’s just announced that the new WRX will in fact cost £1102 less than the old car, at £19,995 on the road."

Looks like they have their facts right?
Unless Autocar are spouting crap as well.

I've just called up my local dealer and they confirmed 300 are definately coming into the UK and they have two on order. Once those 300 have been sold there will be no more WRX's and we'll then have to wait until the spring for the new STi to hit the showrooms.
I'm going try and blag a test drive the new WRX if i get the chance. Only thing is they will look no different at all to the new Impreza std hatchback, and apparently they are not quite as quick 0-60 as the old one either, or handle quite as taughtly as my Sportwagon so on second thoughts i'll give it miss.

I have done some mods to mine in the last year and it has done nearly 80K miles. It's no closer to blowing up now than when it had 47K miles and it's got a full subaru stealer disservice history
My experience so far is that the engine has been utterly reliable, and although i notice a tiny bit of piston slap when cold it soon goes when it warms up. I think that's par for the course with newage 2.0L engines. I got the car with 47K on the clock and it was noisy when cold then, so nothing has changed in the last 3yrs.
I don't have any experience of the 2.5L engines though. It would be intersting to hear what people think of the 2.5.
Calling Vixpy ))))))))) )))))))) ))))))))
P.S. Apologies to Autoexpress for assasinating their integrety as motorbulshitmeisters due to gross ignorance on my part (and obviously i haven't been keeping up with the news)

The 2.5L Boxers don't blow up either, Trickwoo just has the whole stuck record thing going on again
P.S. Impression I've got about the 2.5 WRXes is that its a torquier motor making them easier to drive, but doesn't have as much character as the EJ20.

I hear one or two go by my house from time to time and although there is a sort of burble there it isn't anything like the 2.0L. Mind you i think it's the equal length headers they have that lose the burble character.
Eveyone i talk to, as you've said Ben, say they are a lot torquier than the 2.0's so that's a good thing isn't it. No more joining or pulling onto a roundabout at crawl pace, and getting a fraction of the way across, off turbo, waiting for the turbo to kick in, and there's a fast moving lorry joining the roundabout, about to cut you in half

That's happened once or twice before i played with my ECU

I'll give you that as head gasket failures are'nt really blowing up. And the 'conditioner', Radweld
BTW, that they now put in at the factory seems to be holding them together for now.Edited to say I take issue with the 'either' implying that the ej20 did not have a reputation for blowing up. I've provided loads of evidence to the contrary. Including poor engineering / design reasons for the many many failures.
