Hi guys, only a quick question (Well more curiosity than anything).
My mate has a 1997 Impreza WRX and it was imported from Japan. The car as far as im aware is fairly standard, and the only thing he has done is uprated the intercooler. They state its got 380bhp and im finding it hard to believe.Just looking at the car (esp the brakes because there so small)that this car would have so much BHP.He may be right for all i know, just wondering if anyone could shed any light into weather its possible.Im a massive Audi Lover and the old RS4 2.7 Twin Turbos are pushing out 380bhp standard.Your views would be appreciated.
Many Thanks

If it is standard then it's 280.

For 380 BHP you'd need to replace the turbo so checking the model of this will give clues. Look for modified air intake and exhaust as it'd need to breathe properly too. Brakes are only needed for stopping so it depends how the original owner drove it smile

What year is the car?

The car is japanese import and it usually come in 280bhp - as you said the car is fairly standard with uprated IC. I don't think it will be 380bhp (more likely 280bhp)

Someone is telling porkies. You will know if it is 380bhp as it wont look near standard. And using standard brakes on that would be suicide!

Have a look at the turbo, it will need to be bigger than stock, it will probably have a front mount, and will be fairly laggy.

Yip, as said, without a bigger turbo, exhaust and possibly fuel pump and large injectors its unlikely to reach 380hp. The intercooler alone will not really increase power. Maybe he just didnt hear it or read it properly.

Thanks guys for your views.Apparently as well he uprated the intercooler as the Turbo was getting to hot and then would cut out (as far as i understand).Would this be why he fitted the intercooler.

He was probably hitting boost cut, or the coil packs are failing. With the standard ecu i believe you are limited to just under 1.1 bar anyway.
