R33 gtr 400+bhp running costs?
Discussion
Hi, first of all im not a chav or a cheap skate! But id like to know what cost are involved before I jump right in, so was wondering what a twin turbo's 450bhp skyline properly mapped can do mpg wise on a long run? Im not fussed if its down to single figures when on a track or with some 'spirited' driving, as obviously it has to burn something to achieve its power! but would like to know if im looking at something thats going to be less than 15-20mpg even on a long trip with average speeds of around 70-80mph? thanks in advance!
My cerbera returned around 18mpg average out of a full tank, but would give around 25mpg on a long journey (which ill have to do every month or so to visit family), this I can live with...

Keep off boost and they arent bad , start using the boost and they get awful pretty quick.
My tuned GTS will use a tankful in 120-140 miles on a spirited sunday drive on a trackday a tank goes in 70-80 miles. Normally i get 200+ miles which is just over 20mpg average could perhaps squeeze 23mpg on a decent run.
The R34 may be a little better with its 6th gear

I have just updated my profile and costs - quite frightening how quickly it adds up. I bought a highly tuned R32 gts from Japan approx 18 months ago. Despite spending almost £7K on servicing/maintenance it is still not quite as I would like it.
I used well known garages to do the work and it costs(!) but with highly modified cars I wouldn't risk taking them to anyone other than recognised tuners.
My first year was the most expensive however this was mainly due to insurance however this did reduce by half in the second.
I think the best recommendation is to make sure the car has a full and comprehensive service history, preferably with the same owner and garage if possible. Speak to the garage too see what work is outstanding or due shortly. Then budget atleast couple of grand a year for servicing/repairs. Any left over at the end of the year spend on upgrades!
Fuel is pretty horrendous, I have always bought cheap run abouts to use as I tend to keep the Skyline off the road in winter.
ETA
15mpg is my average, 500hp atw RB25 single turbo, mix of driving though mostly enthusiastic A road stuff.

to be honest I dont think it is 450 bhp, certaintly not at the moment anyway! Its running an R34 engine with BB turbos (unsure if steel or ceramic atm), ganador full titanium exhaust system, fujitsubu (or something like that?) big down pipes, greddy hard pipe kit, ARC fmic, Apexi Power FC running on a base map atm. Its nice, but needs a bit of fettling to get how ill like it.
