impreza type r??? questions???
Discussion
1- No. For example, Type R has adjustable centre diff, P1 has ABS instead
2- Dunno, Gravel Ben knows all the specs.
3- If maintained properly, as reliable as any other Impreza. Allegedly set up for Japanese 100RON fuel, but lots of people run them on V-Power, Tesco99. Can be remapped if you are concerned.
4- Depends how bad the damage and who does the rebuild. Budget for £3K+

Also if you are importing be wary of the fact that as far as I know there is no model report available for the Type R (happy to be proved wrong!) which makes putting any car less than 10 years old on the road practically impossible due to the amended SVA regulations.
I have owned and run a V5 Type R V ltd for several years as a daily driver covering around 500 miles per week. Look after it properly and it is a fantastic machine. Had mine remapped and a couple of other little tweaks and it has never missed a beat. It was just as reliable and no more costly to run than the other WRX, STI and STI RA's that I have run previously and since, although the fuel bills are a bit frightening if you are making progress!
Sold it about 4 months ago for more than it cost me to import and road register all those years back, so depreciation free motoring for several years!
Neil.

1-are they just a jap import version of the english p1??
I believe that Prodrive imported Type-Rs and converted them to P1s.
2-what is the engine code??
It's too cold outside to look.
Try www.iwoc.co.uk
3-how reliable??
I've had mine for just over two years and never had any real problems. New tyres, a leaky power steering pump and a new clutch (took me a while to get over how well it does a standing start) is all I've had to address.
4-how much if something goes wrong, ie. rebuild!!!......??
Couldn't tell you.
PLEASE HELP!!!

seriously considering bringing one in as a private import just want to know what you all think
There's always a few for sale on Autotrader or PH classifieds or try the Scooby specific websites i.e. SIDC. Much easier to buy one rather than go to all the effort of importing one, especially as they are getting on a bit and are reasonable money now.
THANKS!!
Lastly, I have a version 4, which needs a new ECU to remap. I believe that v5 and v6 can be remapped with the existing ECU.I believe that Prodrive imported Type-Rs and converted them to P1s.

I believe that Prodrive imported Type-Rs and converted them to P1s.They did install a few items in the UK such as the top half of the rear spoiler (the first P1's left the dealers with normal STi5 rear spoiler top halfs as the new style Prodrive top section wasnt ready in time, these were later changed to the correct spoiler).
