Classic shape Impreza Mods
Discussion
I have '98 Impreza turbo 2000 5 door.
I am getting the urge to tweak it slightly, nothing too drastic ( if I was going to spend a lot of money I would be better selling it and getting a newer / faster one ).
Is there much to be gained from improving the induction / exhaust / ECU / dump valve etc?
I assume the first stage with brakes is better discs / pads. Whats recommended? I will probably do this when the existing items wear out ( should not be long ). Should I be doing all four, or are the rears OK?
What about suspension?
I was thinking I may be best to get the car on a roling road as it is to make sure everything is healthy before I start playing with it. Being in the South ( Eastbourne ) I would guess the nearst places are Austec or Surrey RR ( Is that Vixpy ? ). Are there any others I should be talking to?
I appreaciate there are quite a few open ended questions there, any comments, suggestions, advise etc would be appreciated.

Vixpy,
How much would it cost to put it on the rollers, and just give it a basic health check before I go any further?
Do I have to book weeks in advance, or can I just turn up at short notice? Are you open weekends or evenings, or is it normal "office hours"?
You can reply on the forum, or e mail through my profile ( I don't mind which )

Thanks Vixpy,
I enjoyed the day, and was well pleased with the result.
Its just a matter of what to do with now.
De-Cat and up the boost? I don't want it any louder as Mrs Big Dunc drives it every day & doesn't do loud cars.
As its a standard 98 UK car, can it be chipped or does it need a new ECU?

It's a crossover year John, They went Phase 1, Phase 1.5 and Phase 2, the 1.5 was the MY98, the Phase 2 was the MY99 model.
The changes made in phase 2 were a diferent engine design and updated ECU that can be EcuTek'd. The easiest way to tell between the two is to look at where the ignition coil is mounted, phase 2 engines have it to the left of the car looking from the driving seat.

Sorry, you have confused me now. Does this mean that it can or cannot be re-mapped?
It can, but not through the easy method of an Ecutek flash onto the ecu. It must either have an aftermarket Apexi ECU, or an ESL board placed inside the physical ecu.I would ring Simon at http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/ He does both fitted and mapped, and will be able to advise you on which he feels is best for your car. He maps on my rollers so natuarlly comes highly recommended.
